As for the claim that Palestinians were ordered out by Arab armies, supposedly by radio messages, when Erskine Childers asked to see the archives, the Israelis could not produce them. So he contacted the BBC and the CIA who had been closely monitoring radio broadcast intercepts from the region and you know these spies did not miss a word, he concluded that no orders or instructions were given by the Arab Higher Committee. @callosamiusprometheus7350 Of course you are right. The Ashkenazi Jews of Eastern Europe are not a Semitic people but they use the word not racially but to mean Jews by religion, not race. Most Israeli Jews are not Semitic but East European. Hitler considered Jews to be a separate race but I do not share his opinion.

@Muipal I believe an appeal to the Bible for a definition of the origin of different cultural groups and languages has no scientific value. The word Semite comes much later in history and is dated to the 1770s and the Göttingen school of history. The term became popular over the following century in Germany to identify people who spoke similar Middle East languages. Most Jews in Europe did not speak one of these Semitic tongues but used a mixture of German and Polish called Yiddish. So, ironically, these Ashkenazi Jews were not even Semites. Due to their religion and culture, however, they were classed as having roots nowhere but had an attachment to Palestine. This was a cultural fiction. There were Semitic Jews who spoke Arabic in the Middle East and across North Africa.
