Her mistake was thinking she's so important, because she's American, that other countries' laws don't apply to her. Americans have gotten in trouble abroad, as long as America has been a thing. But, since the turn of the Millennium, Westerners in general, but particularly Americans, have become so self-absorbed and entitled, they believe that they are in authority to govern the laws, wherever they go. Its like the Brit that got arrested trying to steal Iraqi artifacts and everyone is outraged the the UK isnt bombing anyone over it. When I went to Iraq as a contractor in '05, I got a very short State Dpt briefing on that issue - steal from Iraq, we'll leave you in Iraq

While technically correct, you dramatically overestimate the burden this is going to put on Russia. This is what they came to do. Its what they packed for. They never wanted a fight at all and would've been completely thrilled if Kiev had negotiated on day 1. They had two primary strategic objectives: 1) 'Demilitarize'. In this, they mean to militarily disable Ukraine, so that it will be unable to effectively respond when they 2) secure the land corridor from Crimea, to LPR. I believe, as I have from the start, that Russia will secure the Donbas and push beyond, to the maximum range of their artillery, let the Ukrainians stack up on an established front and then negotiate a DMZ and withdraw back to Donbas. They don't want Ukraine. If Putin is riled up about NATO, then it would be absurd, to expand to NATO's border.
If Russia wants to move beyond Donbas, which there's no reason to think they do, just to contain Russia where they are, would require a substantial infusion of Gen 3+ heavy weaponry, with time and safety to train on it and deploy it.
To force Russia out and make Ukraine whole, would require a million top notch personnel in a fully integrated Gen 3+ air force and army, with Gen 4 force projection capabilities (cruise missiles, etc). Even parity wouldn't do, they would need to overmatch Russia and do it under their nose.
