Professor Brailsford has the best anecdotes on this channel, hands down

I had no idea atoms existed at all! This is awesome

In this objective, unbiased video, Dr Moran explains the nuances of news consumption habits, and how things like satire can easily be mistaken for real news reports. He also discusses ways of counteracting this with computers. He raises questions such as "how do we know what isn't fake news" and "can our own biases effect this effort?" Nobody spamming the dislike button knows this though, they just read the title and felt personally attacked. Who knows why? Do they just deny the concept itself?

I like listening to Dr Thor here But I'm gonna be honest, I got lost about 5 minutes in :(

In 1999 I was given a sealed can of little chocolate IC's, called "Millennium Bugs" That's all I remember about it!
29
He even questioned why he trusted the BBC, on camera. He said nothing about nationalism. Who are you to dictate what this channel can show...when you refuse to watch the videos anyway?
21
You didn't watch the video, there is no leftist content in this video. Its a British channel ffs why would it even be leftist?
16
Stating that Trump has done something ridiculous isn't a political statement. He has a habit of doing strange, ridiculous things. Pulling the arms of world leaders for example. It's not political to recognise this as ridiculous, its not a criticism of his policies or anything. People on all sides agree.
12
Anything that isn't programming is political? Really?

Dad Pitt

+Brock Wood You keep posting comments about how much you think this guy is wrong, yet you haven't actually refuted a single thing yet.
8
Unfortunately the people who proudly shun "PC culture" are just as guilty of shutting down anybody dissimilar from themselves. I think this is a human trait that trancends political leanings.
8
Ah yes, because Karl Marx wrote extensively on this topic and was renowned for saying these things a full century before anybody else did. Here's how to identify the real ideologues: When they throw around terms like "marxist" to describe things that have nothing to do with Karl Marx or his works. To them, it's a brilliant and stunning way to scare people away from bad ideas. To everybody living in the 21st century...It's a pathetic attempt to invoke the red scare from the 50's again. It doesn't work, by the way.
7
This is a hell of a story, I feel bad for his dad though :p

The scary thing about the power the police have to ask for a decryption key, is that it's technically a crime to not know/have forgotten. If the police search your computer and find an encrypted file you genuinely didn't know about, and they ask for the password, you're going to jail unless you can guess the password.
6
Biased news doesn't stop being real just because it's biased lad
5
This one was really interesting, I had no idea ebook designers had such a tough job..
5
benblue3 No, you can absolutely get banned or blocked for disagreeing, and I have. Might not happen quite as often, because the anti-PC crowd prefer you to be around when they spam insults.
5
I'm no engineer myself, but I think you could swing it. Have videos for each of the various principles, explain the nuances of generation and transmission..there's certainly no lack of theory to cover!
5
They don't even have journalists, how can they be a news outlet?
4
>leftist In the UK? Sure mate, the UK is renowned for being leftist, its not like the government is wholly staffed by conservatives or anything, nope. It's not like the UK has a long track record of taking conservative stances on everything, no sir.
4
Weird how it's always the people with no education or expertise in science that accuse actual scientists of denying biology. I don't believe he doxed anybody, I think you're making that up.
4
Nationalism has no correlation with intelligence? Sure, that's why NF/UKIP/BF/BNP are all full of intelligent, eloquent members right?
3
YourTV Unplugged So you're saying that every single one is reality? Without exception?
3
Actually he said "intersection" so

"Trump does something ridiculous" isn't necessarily anti-Trump, even the Vice President has acknowledged that some of his actions have been bizarre and wrong. Doesn't matter if you're for or against Trump, you must agree that he's done some strange, sometimes inexplicable things. Stating this publicly doesn't have any bearing on your agreement with his policies. Come on, the man has been infamous for decades, he's just one of those unique personalities and it attracts mockery. That's apolitical. This channel isn't paid for by the BBC, incidentally. Don't know why you'd assume otherwise.
3
Factually incorrect*

benblue3 All online communities are irrelevant, so telling you isn't going to convince you of anything.
3
My AI's are too strong for you, traveller

+YourTV Unplugged The state can already seize assets, why go to all this trouble to do it electronically?
2
YourTV Unplugged So non-shills are always right. Gotcha.
2
He literally said he questions why he trusts the BBC, you didn't watch the video.
2
So what happens when you come to an intersection when you drive?
2
benblue3 Whoops, there I go writing things that don't exist inside your bubble. Guess that makes me a liar huh? Go ahead, prove me right again.
2
I recommend BigClive
2
Does it bug anybody else that the windows just lead to ANOTHER INDOOR ROOM
2
Google should still be shut down just for other reasons

I really love seeing this kind of stuff in action. In regards to having to hold your tablet infront of you though, that's where VR headsets could come into play. Combined with cameras, you could do all this with free hands!
1
Seconding Neuromancer SO HARD. Reading it in the 21st century is kind of a trip, when you realise it was written in the 80's.
1
Where did he say that?
1
This is computerphile, not philosophyfile, I'm not debating epistemology with you.
1
YourTV Unplugged Kings and Queens predate debt-based economies, I have no doubt that people would still gain control without money as we know it.
1
Can you say vvvvvvideo games?
1
These look great! It's always nice to see examples of creativity, especially in places where it's normally considered to be too much hassle.
1
Are you allergic to words with too many syllables or something?
1
This is great! Look at all those wee micros in the back! I have to get ahold of that emulator and see what it's like
1
benblue3 To be honest I am extremely skeptical that anybody else is concerned with what a brony considers to be intelligent
1
Oho, I see a reference to McAfee and those Vice guys hidden in the background! Now that's a story I always bring up whenever asked about EXIF data.
1
3:48 Woah! I literally just finished playing that Indiana game and here it is on computerphile!
1
gameRevolt He's not obligated to prove anything to you, and this channel would be much worse if everybody had to explain their motivations to the audience. If it matters that much to you, just email him and ask.
