@junelaananke7138 Nah, that's not it. I'm old enough to remember the pre-internet world, and when we were young we were all explicitly told that we'd just 'naturally meet people'. Obviously the internet has had an impact, but there was always a subset of the population who would simply be ostracised if they didn't make the cut for whatever reason.

After sleeping on it I wanna push back on just one thing: I hear 'don't date just because you're lonely, love yourself first' a lot, but never from anybody who has experienced solitude long-term. And it's good advice for people that have been single for 6 months and still miss their ex. But what about people who have been alone for a year? Or five years? Ten? There's no level of self-confidence you can have which will negate the real harm this does to you, and I agree its not an ideal place to start a relationship. But the alternative is imo far worse.

@skyaero8773 The really wild part is that the directors were publicly outlining some of the trans messaging even way back then - I knew there was a trans character in the movie before I even saw the movie, before I even knew what a trans person was! And nobody bat an eyelid! We thought that was cool!

@slime8177 Okay, I cite Joe Sullivan. There you go. What now?
24
@slime8177 I'm supposed to believe that the same people who randomly beat the shit out of commuters are above randomly jailing anybody? The cops do what they want.
22
@slime8177 Hey where'd you go slimey :)
22
@slime8177 You realise we're talking about the same country where 13 year olds get sentenced to life without parole right
20
One side wants equal rights and the other side wants the government to assign single men a girlfriend Idk man I think one extreme might be worse than the other
16
@slime8177 Oh so you DIDN'T know, explains a lot
14
@painunending4610 damn dude let the lil man get outta the womb first
11
Take one look at what happened to Libya and tell me that there's dignity to be found.

@junelaananke7138 No, I didn't fail to understand. I understand completely; I am simply correcting you. Because you are wrong. People were still wasting away in isolation before the internet, we did still have books after all. People still had hobbies they could pursue alone. And the problem of not having places outside of work and home was already a big deal before the internet, this has more to do with the economic status quo than technology. People continue to get poorer and socialisation continues to cost more money, with fewer public spaces to support forming bonds with others made available. The point I am making here is that increased alienation is inevitable with or without technology, and therefore technology cannot be blamed. Although it has certainly been used poorly, it's also true to say that the internet has allowed people to have community and relationships they could never have had before. Many LGBT people only have friends because of the internet, as they live in places where they would never be accepted as themselves. So the internet has made some people worse, but other people better, overall I think the impact has been more positive than negative.

@WhoDeanyUnchained I'm sorry, is there some kind of perspective and context I'm missing that makes what he did ok? Hm? What's that? No answer? You're not going to say anything at all? You're just going to continue to believe he was a positive influence because he was good at speeches?
9
"And if they were SO bad, how are they so more successful at maintaining long lasting relationships" Coercion and force, mainly. Am I wrong? How come conservatives are trying to get rid of no-fault divorce then? Seems like it wouldn't be an issue if you were correct.
8
If there are so many good apples, how come they let bad ones run rampant?
8
@jauxro " I can't expect you to care about people you don't know" Is this why you're voting for the pro-genocide candidate
8
@deepfried13 "willing to share" You mean accept being driven from their land, which is what happened.
8
@deepfried13 None of what you said justifies the ethnic cleansing of 48 or the genocide of today. "Bu-bu-but British people said" Stop. If you're stooping to 'the genocidal empire of the day didn't recognise their claim' then you've already lost. That's your best argument? Then I don't need to say a word, you KNOW I'm right.
8
Amazing that you can do your own research, but it in a video and somehow it's STILL 'not original'
7
"poverty does not cause crime" Lmao this is how we know you're just parroting somebody else, you haven't actually been weighing up different ideas
7
This is exactly it, can you imagine how many votes would be won if the Democrats said "genocide is wrong"? But no, they'll never compromise, not even on genocide.
7
@shin-ishikiri-no "war is about men dying for women they love" Are you 13 years old
7
"always follow the law, that's how we progress as a society!" So you'd have sent Rosa Parks to the back, huh?
7
Hi, Scot here Would you mind going back to being wrong about everything American, and leave being wrong about Scotland to us? Thanks
7
Those are just clips used to back up claims made in the video It's not like context has been cut out or anything Idk, at some point we have to reconcile that some people on this platform have said some awful shit
7
Nah, planty of terrible men still have intimate relationships while still hating women
6
"There's so much talk about a men's loneliness epidemic as though the problem there isn't men refusing to be good people " This is a bit of a generalisation, everybody is finding it harder to form connections with other people in modern society. You can't say "oh well they're obviously all just evil", especially when we can see that plenty of bad people aren't actually lonely.
6
'genocide is when you give the victims of genocide their land back' You people aren't getting a damn inch
6
@The.Harsh.Truths "I’m guessing you believe tech firms are sexist since they employ more male engineers than female" I mean I was going to go with the pay gap but ok "Or that capitalism is sexist for having more male CEOs than female CEOS" I mean I was going to go with the fact that capitalism is sustained with a significant amount of unpaid labour done mostly by women but ok
6
@deepfried13 The very second I pulled out that fact you run away, amazing work hahahahaha
6
I have a question about this: Isn't it still usually unhealthy to be without relationships and community even if the desires are decentered? Like, my understanding was that solitude is simply inherently bad for human beings.
5
"umm actually anarchy is far-right and if you think about it the slave-owners who wrote the constitution were supportive of a stateless classless society 🤓" Conservatives are not sending their best, folks.
5
@SamShalaam Um, my adult self also thinks its odd to portray sexual assault as a joke, explicitly for kids, I'm not sure you're making the point you think you're making? Unless you're trying to say that sexual assault is legitimately funny, in which case you're actually proving FD correct
5
@Bridge2110 "The methodology of the studies is solid." Not being funny here but uh...how would you know lmao "The stores lock up items because they are being stolen" Hmm, wonder why items are being stolen during a time of reduced economic activity and rising prices? "this is not what I am talking about" Ah, nevermind then. Probably no relation. "There is no clear correlation where there is a recession and therefore crime goes up. We don't see this. We actually tend to see the opposite." Again, you're only proving that you're parroting other people. The nuanced view on this is that recessions effect some crimes and not others. You don't need to look deeply to see this. The bottom line is this: People in poverty who work full-time (that's most people in poverty btw) have a greater incentive to commit crime, since the short-term benefit of crime helps stave off homelessness or death. Your position is that this isn't true, that desperate people won't do desperate things. I have centuries of history on my side, what do you have?
5
@spudssnowdrops6286 So in your own words, conservatives are trying to impose a religious concept of marriage onto everybody else? "Divorce is at 50%, you don't think that's an issue?" In case you've been asleep since the 20th century, the rest of us are a little more worried about the skyrocketing price of food, energy and housing. We're a little bit more concerned with people dying in the millions. And then there's the issue of large sections of the planet quickly becoming uninhabitable. We'll get to 'but u promised u wouldn't break up' after we handle the rest, yeah?
5
@strayiggytv This is true and you're right to say it But as we get older, it gets harder for platonic relationships to meet our needs. Many men still are reluctant to be as emotionally supportive of their friends (although I think this is gradually changing) and there comes a point where people start to get married and/or raise kids. Society is increasingly atomised and there are fewer ways to get around it.
5
@DanielKolbin If a good person decides to stay in a place that is designed for bad people...are they still a good person? Like, once a "good cop" realises they can't simply arrest the bad cops...shouldn't they quit?
5
@DanielKolbin When a cop was caught on camera murdering an unarmed man, police around the country started rioting and attacking random people, journalists and anybody who dared protest the act of murder. Do not lie to me. The 'good cops' saw this happen. They let it happen. They aren't trying to stop or change anything. I live halfway across the world and even my local police got mad that I protested what was happening in the USA. Would a 'good' cop have a problem with what I did?
5
"he's much more thoughtful and genuine than what you are saying here" His lawyers have already argued that he is, in fact, playing a character and that he's not genuine. So either he's the real deal and he told his lawyers to lie (sus) or he's a fraud and is trying to fraud his way out of his crimes (sus) Get better role models, you deserve it
5
@v0Xx60 'clips made by nazis' Listen to yourself Did the nazis force these people to say those things on camera too?
5
"America unlike most of the world still gives you the ability to do so" Americans really say this shit after leaving their home state once
5
@deepfried13 Did the Palestinians force Israelis to found a settler colony on top of Palestine? No. So it wasn't them who started the war, was it?
5
@deepfried13 The settler colony had to be established before anybody could declare war on it, no? Really painted yourself into a corner there lmao
5
@deepfried13 Your entire argument hinges on "uhhUhuh well the UN said-" Nope, not accepting this. Do it again. " Try reading a book or studying history" This is rich coming from somebody who doesn't know that the founders of Israel explicitly referred to it as a colonial project lmao Oh shiiiit did I reveal that too early? You won't like that one huh
5
@theofficialvernetheturtley338 You're aware that Musk, Bezos, Gates etc are all mooching off others too, right? That's literally how they got rich. That is, in fact, the ONLY way to be a billionaire. Yet you'd take their opinions on the economy more seriously than Marx. Why is that? You have no answer. You've never considered it until today.
5
@AT_ID I think I understand what you're driving at, it's not optimal to put all your needs onto one person, you should feel able to open up emotionally to a friend etc etc That said, I believe there's more to it than simply being raised to only believe in one type of meaningful connection. There are pragmatic aspects too. What I mean is, even if you don't settle down and have a monogamous relationship with 2.5 kids etc...most other people will. Your friends will have less time for you as they devote more time to their families, casual dating becomes less viable etc Which means that your options are either get on board or be isolated, alternatives exist but are strikingly rare.
4
He's a little bit to close to actual white supremacists for anybody to give him the benefit of the doubt Also as a Scot I want to make it known his accent is trash
4
"overall justice system exists to stop evil" This is actually a lie, listen to your creator and stop lying
4
@Bridge2110 "What I am "parroting" is research that says exactly this" Exactly. No questioning the methodology, no critical thinking - nothing. "The fact that crime does not go up during recessions is evidence" lmao okay so a bunch of stores started locking up basic everyday items at the same time for no reason, just sheer coincidence This is what I'm talking about
4
@sneakykamon It's so strange to me that people are still saying "figure it out :)" You can just say "shit idk why that happens" lmao
