"The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly, Cassini."

@PongoXBongo why is it a demotion? why do people get emotional tied up in what we name things? it's really weird.
9
frack the moon?? wtf are you even talking about.
4
model is not outdated. it has been refined. it's still commonly referred to as big bang, even though it's more detailed than that. as to the next, certainly you know how to use google?
4
"So due to perspective of earthly experiences NASA assumed all rocks are hard." nope. we know earth rocks can age and become brittle over time as well. "The Earth is very unique " Now THERE'S an assumption.
3
@hardchemist "Interplanetary travel needs a good business case" no, it doesn't. increasing our basic knowledge is ALWAYS justified.
3
the argument from ignorance is not an argument. it is a fallacy.
3
@HVYMETL " I do not forgive actual scientists for ignoring angular momentum which results in their false conclusions." show me a single example in a peer reviewed publication.
3
@generaleerelativity9524 there's actually a lot more space than anything else... everywhere. including ourselves.
3
@SimonSenaviev none are so sure than those who know nothing.
2
ask yourself why you care so much. really. why.
2
neither do you. there are no plans for any other excursions to pluto atm.
2
@georgeofhamilton my guess is it was just due to simple weather conditions, which delayed the launching of the first probe until after the second was ready to go.
2
yes, why care about definitions of things you don't understand? just be contrarian because you enjoy being five years old and getting your way.
2
Just so long as we don't tell them about the Allspark.
2
the short answer is: simple math vs chaotic math. the long answer will take you years of study to understand. just don't pretend you understand anything without actually studying the subject first.
2
perhaps these things are left to minds that have actually spent the time studying them. don't hurt yourself worrying about it.
2
^delusional
2
gravity. simple as that.
2
yeah, that's the gas that neoliberals breathe: MEEEEthane.
2
there might not be. there are not any currently planned.
2
no... the SURFACE is only 100 million years old, which means it gets rapidly recycled (geologically speaking).
2
@zoranbeader6441 "Even we aren't destructive just for the sake of destruction." not so sure about that. humans can rationalize anything.
2
all you have to do is spend 10 million or so on your phone.
2
...for this probe.
2
I'm holding out for wormholes.
2
because space x is not a nonprofit company. simple as that. this is why we NEVER should have left space exploration to private corporations, and why republicans who believe the market can to better are ALWAYS wrong.
1
renditions based on actual observations though, not imagination.
1
christ, what fucking insanity.
1
elon is little more than a childish narcissist, who got rich through self manipulation of his own stocks, illegally. ANYBODY else would and should have done better. If elon is the best mankind can produce to manage space exploration... we are all doomed.
1
how ignorant are you? want to buy a surefire way to get yourself out of traffic tickets?
1
@louthinator "no the reason earth and moon isn;'t called the earth system is because it orbits the sun and nothing else" this is entirely incorrect. both the earth system and all other planetary systems in our solar system orbit the sun, but all objects in it also orbit each other. all that matters visually is where the center of mass is for each level you define the system at. the ONLY difference between earth/moon and pluto/moon is the point of mass they both revolve around is much closer to the center of the earth for the earth system, because the mass of the earth relative to the moon is so much greater. all the objects in the solar system ALSO influence each other, but the distances between them allow us to separate them into systems. it is just nomenclature of a useful nature to define each major element as a system, divided into star systems, stars, planet systems, planets, etc. Any real astrophysicist already knows this. please stop attempting to mis-inform people.
1
that is not what the title was referring to. it was referring to images from THIS probe.
1
did he say "terrifying"? no? stfu.
1
well, that would literally NOT be falling now, would it. you are actively using energy to change your relationship to the gravity well.
1
why are people so emotionally attached to the concept of a "planet" being somehow "better" than a dwarf planet? it's damn weird.
1
maybe there are people who aren't you that haven't heard about the full story? you think the world revolves around just you, sunshine?
1
not from THIS probe.
1
not if we keep chaining ourselves to the outdated fairy tales of ancient goat herders.
1
@stephenpage-murray7226 and who made that god?
1
@jeffdunhamvevo953 uh, no. there is no free oxygen on Titan. it's 98% nitrogen.
1
@stephanieparker1250 " there’s a lot of dust and micrometeorites flying around out there" not really.
1
that's not what defines a planet on its own. words do have proper definitions.
1
nobody likes you?
1
I'd hate to see the egg they are meant to fertilize then!
1
...from that probe.
1
@MrWhizardsLizard dude, trust me, you're delusional, and need serious mental health care.
1
also known as Trump voters?
1
that is not a correction, but rather outright incorrect. the mantle is in fact a very dense liquid. glass is also a liquid, btw.
1
based on???
