@nobobyelse1789 come on now, this is YOU, isn't it Terrence.
1000
Jonathan Wells was a grad student in Molecular and Cell Biology when I was a grad student in Zoology at Berkeley (late 1980s, early 90s). Had lunch with him several times. He tried to give me the impression he was just a confused grad student, trying to reconcile his faith with his work. Nothing could be further from the truth. His entry into MCB was directly funded by Reverend Sun Myung Moon. Yup, before he was a schill for the discotute, he was a moonie. People like this are literally programmed from an early age NOT to tell the truth. They literally CANNOT be honest with you if you ask them pointed questions. It's sad and pathetic. There were MANY heated arguments between MCB and the other biological sciences about them letting him even BE a student there. Sad to say, money talks, all the rest walks. MCB was happy to take moonie money.

lol 100% accurate.
123
@N00BleSouP24 he unlearned more than he learned. like a negative polymath?
111
@iconsumeworlds "Academic" meaning what, exactly? you're a high school teacher that also washed out of your PhD program just like Sabine did, and you're bitter about it. Get a grip and move on with your life.
109
it's not the weed he smokes, it's the money he makes to BUY the weed he smokes. It's all he cares about.
96
ad hominem is simply a subset of "poisoning the well" fallacy, and is designed to get the audience to redirect the attention from the person's argument, to the person themselves instead. in an actual public debate, it can be an effective tactic. not honest, but effective. this is one of Trump's favorite tactics in fact. even more refined, he really likes the tu quoque form of the argument. one could argue whether it even IS a tactic though, instead of just pure psychological projection of the "I'm rubber but you're glue" style.
95
@newhybrid101 hot water = more energy. more energy = bigger, more chaotic storms. this is not rocket science kiddo.
93
@nobobyelse1789 "Terrence created the patent for VR." ROFLMAO. who told you that? Terrence?
92
@SirPhysics "I don't understand how she even got a PhD" I recall her having washed OUT of the PhD program. I don't think she ever actually finished her degree.
66
@BrigidtheMechLady It would cost the university more problems (and likely a lawsuit) to get rid of him than just to pretend he's a "nonissue". I've seen it many times. You get rid of him, and he goes to court and says he was fired for his religion. half the time, this nets the claimant hundreds of thousands in damages. University is best off just working around him.
64
@matt-jc4ly "Rogan is one of the most down to earth man of the people " that you actually seem to believe this is exactly the problem that is being discussed. How do you become so detached from reality to think what Terrence was saying makes ANY sense whatsoever, and thus how can you possibly say Rogan is "down to earth" in promoting it on his show? How does that work?
54
I love how RELIGIOUS people call science a religion.. as an insult.
52
I always wish trilos were still around.
47
@Artificial-Influencers so much projection so little time.
44
it's even funnier when the person saying "science is a religion"... is religious. They never get the obvious irony. never.
44
@thomaskirkpatrick4031 it doesn't matter WHAT Joe believes. only that he grants a full platform for stupidity.
40
@thepinkestghost so... you're literally using an ignorant argument to argue that both sides are anti-intellectual. wow.
36
like voting for Trump. twice. Yeah, I came to that conclusion when they voted for W, twice. THAT was enough for me to fk right on out of the US after 45 years and 5 generations.
36
no, they don't, and it's because humans have a tremendous ability to compartmentalize. some say that our extreme ability to compartmentalize is what actually constitutes "consciousness". you were correct about cognitive dissonance being a symptom instead of a cause though. it's a quite common thing to see exhibited by people who are extremely religious. the cause being the extreme disparity between what tenants of their "faith" tell them vs what they observe in reality. the constant extreme disparity produces cognitive dissonance as a primary symptom, and this can be recognized by the secondary symptoms displayed as denial and projection.
33
some don't. those are the marks. some do. those are the grifters. you need both to make any religion.
30
...but he gave it a damn good try. I mean seriously... he selected the leading oil lobbyist at the time to be the head of the EPA ffs. You can damn well bet he can and will go MUCH further if he ever gets in again.
28
"Why is this even an issue? The fact that people aren't immediately dismissing Terrance is ridiculous." I said the same thing about Trump in 2014. yet here we are, ten years later... and his cult has grown large and dangerously stupid.
28
@Kodes-75 We did. His patent FILINGS were 97. his patent acceptions were only 3, and even those were ridiculous.
27
@mactallica9293 I'm staring to believe nobobylese is actually Terrence. I mean.. seriously, he keeps saying the same thing, and talking about the interview on Rogan as if it were authoritative.
23
Religion itself has become little more than an argument from ignorance. Hopefully, people will someday stop thinking ignorance is strength.
23
@rebelliousfineart8202 trust me, Peterson actually knows very little. even in his own field. there are MANY reasons he was dismissed from his former university, and his limited range of knowledge in his own field was definitely one of them. the constant lies were another.
23
@halofornoobs93 "I get we all sound looney to atheists" the religious don't sound looney, so much as dangerous. when you abandon reason, you can be convinced to do literally anything.
23
still needs to be there.
22
@josieb6464 "Do they hand out patents to just anyone?" YES. They really do. Go ahead, come up with an idea and apply for a patent. So long as you pay the fee for certification, they will file your entry. Might not be approved, but then NEITHER WERE HOWARD'S.
21
@dpt4458 "Sorry bro next time we'll use some spells or something." yes, please do. it sure couldn't be any worse than your current efforts, and it might prove actually amusing.
21
that's what I said when Trump first won the GoP nomination in 2015. I was wrong.
21
By making a much bigger swamp.
21
@iminabrons exactly incorrect. In fact, every paper I ever wrote as a scientist was always peer reviewed with an eye towards REMOVING unnecessary jargon from them. Makes it easier for scientists in other fields to read, and makes it easier for YOU to read.
20
@Bryan-Hensley "I want to see you prove there absolutely no way a creator can exist" Then I want to see you prove there is no way the invisible, inaudible, scentless, giant flying purple unicorn that lives in my attic can exist either. It's not about postulating existence, dummy, it's about postulating RELEVANCE. no god ever invented has ever had relevance to reality.
20
@Elcore "He has mastered dozens of types of idiocy." ...and had them all COPYRIGHTED!!111!! I bet you no haz copyright! (god I am tired of hearing that crap)
20
@newhybrid101 oh do fo.
19
@AndyCutright NO university professor I have ever been acquainted with in over 40 years would support keeping Tour on the payroll. They realize he makes the entire University look bad. You are highly incorrect. I've personally been involved in not just intradepartmental issues like this, but INTERdepartmental. yes, people SO bad, that OTHER departments want them fired. You do not know what you are talking about. The only reason Tour is still there, is because the ADMINISTRATION simply doesn't want to deal with the likely lawsuits he will file for firing him, justified as doing so clearly is.
19
@mrrooster4876 " He's not the only person in math and physics looking at exactly this subject in this manner." O.o NAME ONE.
19
@Wanker527 I don't think you understand what the definition of the word "smart" is.
17
Honesty has nothing to do with creationism. never has, never will.
17
@miskatonic_alumni "Your god was nailed to a cross, my god carries a big hammer. Questions?"
16
@dougking5703 I did look it up. here were the results: "The final results from Finland's experiment are now in, and the findings are intriguing: the basic income in Finland led to a small increase in employment, significantly boosted multiple measures of the recipients' well-being, and reinforced positive individual and societal feedback loops." so, you were lying. Now I have a question for you: what was your motivation for lying about it?
16
@ComradeBeer I think it IS Terrence!
15
@d3tuned378 psst: neoliberal IS right wing.
15
@benhetland576 it's not the fallacies that are designed, but rather their use in debate. if you know your opponent, and your audience, you know which logical fallacies will push their buttons to your advantage. this is exactly why serious issues SHOULD NOT be solved by public debate.
14
@dpt4458 "I don't know why I can't find the specific papers " because your imagination doesn't equal reality, and you're finding it hard to figure out why?
14
one of the first lab experiments I recall doing when I took ochem as an undergrad. And pretty much the only one I recall going smoothly :P
13
NatCo-Supremacist " so let me live mine." If your life was comprised of running around punching people in the face because you didn't like their looks... think we should let you just live your best life do you? logic runs shallow in your family eh?
13
Ash Barr because Morgan is a nutter. that's why he said that.
