Fascism is a form of totalitrian socialism and directly opposes capitalism. Their centralized economic policies obeyed collectivist and socialist principles, openly opposing capitalism and the free market. Adolf was indeed a socialist, just not a marxist which is yet another competing form of socialism.

@Kevin Lessenberry: Incorrect. German's national socialists and Italian fascists both were far left. The "night of the long knifes" had nothing to do with socialists. It was done due to the fact that Adolf's generals were worried about the SA staging a military coup against Adolf, so Adolf purged the SA leaders.

Socialism is an umbrella term that simply means; a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole. This is a direct quote from Adolf: "We might have called ourselves the Liberty Party. We chose to call ourselves National Socialists. We are not Internationalists. Our Socialism is national. We demand the fulfillment of the just demands of the productive classes by the state on the basis of race solidarity. To us state and race are one." As far as we know, NSDAP was a socialist party and Adolf himself was a proud socialist which he kept saying in his speeches and books.
