Sidenote: Shoutout to Chanley who is an excellent correspondent. She is articulate and engaging.

While this is tragic, it's not always that simple. Since they were home owners, there was the option of selling the home and renting something smaller in an assisted living type facility. If they could not afford it, there are programs to pay for medical help. So, they either had the money but chose not to use it, or they didn't have the money and could have gotten free care.
2
@blitzmom2674 No, not all the time. He said besides school, chores, etc., he would usually be locked inside.
2
What a disgusting move to take this to court. Totally selfish!! Those poor children and parents. 😢
2
The audacity of blaming the hospital - especially after being asked if there was any chance she was pregnant and blood test results hadn't come back yet. The reporter said no one understands what happened. It's not that complicated. She knew she was pregnant and killed her baby. I'm not sure what's so hard to understand.
2
@suhitamitra Such an interesting thought! That would explain why she was attracted to those specific religious beliefs. However, millions and millions of people believe they are "God's favored".
2
Including her own mother.
2
1. Those poor kids 2. What a mess! 3. SO relieved the husband is still alive. Watch your back!
2
American culture? This is not typical American culture. I'm not sure where that idea came from. Do you see the outrage by Americans in cases involving children? It's cultural in certain circles, but not as a whole.
2
I can't be the only one who is struggling to understand what she's saying. It's like she is mumbling in a different language.
2
I haven't seen a well thought out plan from her yet. Yee gads!
2
@justatexasgirl5583 A very bad actor.
2
None of that part made any sense. Terrible reporter.
2
That's the first time I saw him look terrified.
2
No one said it was an excuse, but it is piece of the puzzle. In this case, it could be partly how he could commit such a horrific act.
2
I'm not sure I've ever seen a more compassionate prosecutor.
2
He absolutely was. There are so many people here who pretend that upbringing has no effect on children. While Paul was abused his entire life, he belongs in prison. Hopefully, he will receive therapy, but he might be too far gone.
2
@CHAILIFE It's not an either/or situation. We can sympathize with both. They were both severely brainwashed by their mother, just in different ways. That is the biggest factor here. Without her influence, Paul never would have abused his brother like that.
2
Interesting how this man doing "God's work" appears very vulnerable and weak now.
2
@bevwinn1369 Exactly. I see religion as a detriment to society. There is WAY too much focus on the "afterlife", rather than the here and now, among many other harmful beliefs. I rarely challenge beliefs, but every one in a while, especially when it has to do with children being harmed, I do. Where was "God" when this poor child needed protection??
2
@cindyruiz7434 Why would you assume I haven't read the Bible? I've read it many times over and was a believer for 40 years. I've done extremely in depth Bible studies as I always wanted to learn more, but the more I learned, the more I saw the flaws. Have you studied the origins of the bible? It was like pulling back the curtain on Oz. I can never go back now that I realize it was all based on myth.
2
@Moonlight Excellent points and things I considered while de-converting. However, I know plenty of believers who read the Bible, and I was one of them. No doubt the majority don't though. The ones who read it usually skip past or ignore the part where God did horrifying things to people, acts like a narcissist, or contradicts himself.
2
What an assumption to say that the lodge will take the side of the wealthy party. You have no idea and are assuming that all employees have no scruples.
2
@chrisc1644 His injuries don't prove that she was the cause of them. Hopefully neither of you ever ends up on a jury.
2
@Coppellgirl No one mentioned an excuse. However, society would benefit from having a deeper understanding of how some people can get to the place of this much anger.
2
@suzannefernandez470 You know it was her? If you were totally innocent of accusations, how would you react?
2
@Em22-wtf All we know so far is that he CLAIMED that's what happened. It's not wise to assume either way until all of the facts come out.
2
@vp2718 I guess the way it was worded was odd, as if the Murdaughs were trying to be in the spotlight. Maybe it wasn't intended that way, though.
2
@ChubbyUnicorn While I agree that many people should not be parents and abortion might be the best solution for those types of situations, I was referring to the majority of abortions that are done on average women, who could have prevented the pregnancy in the first place. I support prevention, which I realize doesn't happen as regularly as we would like in certain circles - drug addicts and prostitutes, for example. I would have liked to have had a pleasant conversation and exchanged ideas. I probably could have learned something. But you come across incredibly harsh and angry, so I'll bow out. ✌️
2
I couldn't understand one word at 7:40. Can anyone else understand what was said?
2
@Flip-Da-Script 🙄 As if there was anything similar to the two incidents. 🙄🙄🙄
2
@sjs-stev Yeah, I hesitated to use that word, but figured most people would understand what I meant. I'll change it to "non-adoptive" parent. Is that better?
2
To be fair, this kind of thing is extremely rare, which is why it gets so much attention. 99.999% of the time, kids don't get murdered when walking. However, it's not wise to allow young children to go walking way out in secluded areas like this. It's not even wise for adults to do that, especially without protection like pepper spray.
2
I don't want to jump to conclusions, but did anyone else find him to come across insincere and maybe even arrogant? I could be wrong, but...
2
@mbb-- All crime is lower today than ever before in history, except during the 2 years of the pandemic...for obvious reasons. Sadly, children were much more vulnerable.
2
@LegendLength Right? It's always the Cop's fault. 🙄
2
@sandybatton1391 To be fair, the god of the Bible murdered many people and commanded others to murder. So, it's only fair to look at the entirety of the Bible.
2
He very well be off his rocker as well.
2
👍
2
However, actions speak louder than words.
2
He can't keep his eyes off of her.
2
All mentioned had parents who enabled them and did not hold them accountable for their actions.
2
But, but, but... two of the jurors got in the boat ON A TRAILER!! 🙄
2
@magicbuskey That really does make sense. I'd bet my last dollar that he's guilty, but you're right...that is IF we know what all the evidence was.
2
At the very least, that haircut is insane. She looks just like a child actor from the 1980s.
2
@tammyburke9453 🙌
2
@Enoughalready20237 Unbelievable. What a cruel thing to do to your own children. It's normal to not have compassion for people who do such things, like Wendi Adelson.
2
The excitement these women have with the drama with the phone is disturbing. This is real life murder you're discussing, not some Netflix show.
2
@Toxic-qi6sb That's why she said "if."
2
That pale pink blouse and slicked back bun. 🙄
