that's why they should have breakers instead of fuses
89
@davidpar2 that's also the reason why the british plug is overrated
28
a 2000w (230v 10a) dishwasher has a significantly more powerful heating element than a 1500w (120v 15a) dishwasher
13
@henryposadas3309 why?
4
16:04 both holes are the same size so a polarized plug won't fit
4
@cromefire_ listen closely: 230v 32a × 3 = 22kw l1 + l2 = 400v 16a + l1 + l3 = 400v 16a + l2 + l3 = 400v 16a = 400v 48a = 19kw
4
@ElmarLecher 3 things: 1. the uk type g plug is limited to 13a by its own fuse 2. the french type e plug is rated at 16a 3. i think nowadays both france & uk have 16a because 15a mcbs don't exist
4
make sure the common ground is actually connected
3
elfrjz don't you remember ps3 ylod?
3
@thomasalberts3181 dutch plug? do you mean type e or type f?
3
a 1500w (120v 15a) dishwasher can't really heat up cold water
3
@peterhoz ok thanks for answering
3
most 220-240v lcd tvs are 50/60hz
3
i thought normal cds used mp3 when i was a kid
3
fun fact: north american ps3 & ps4 consoles say 100-120v 50/60hz on the outside but on the inside they say 100-240v 50/60hz so they can be used in europe
3
type f is just as safe as type k but it's unpolarized
3
we didn't change the standard because it would've been too expensive
3
i think that's why the european 230v sockets are protected by 30ma rcds
2
you could use a retrotink 5x with its motion adaptive deinterlacing
2
in europe almost everything is 230/400v 3 phase
2
the original gba doesn't have a charger so you must've had a gba sp
2
@lzh4950 why didn't the earth wire create a short circuit that blows the fuse/breaker? that's how it worked before rcds were invented
2
@kung_puey fun fact: european breakers still trip internally if you do that
2
do you connect your dishwashers into your standard 230v 10a type j power sockets?
2
european dishwashers can use 2000w (230v 10a) while american dishwashers can only use 1500w (120v 15a)
2
10kw? 230/400v 3x32a is 22/19kw
2
2500w? 230v 15a is over 3kw & the standard european fuse size is 16a 3.5kw
2
@ΣτελιοςΠεππας yes but i don't know why the guy said 2500w because it's less than 13a
2
@diatonicdelirium1743 standard fuse box layout? do you mean old dii or new din rail?
2
my apartment is so old that it doesn't even have a dishwasher circuit
2
that won't work if the game console uses a standard iec plug
1
blu-ray supports lossless audio so just use lossless audio
1
the type f schuko is actually the best design because it's safe but without that downside
1
@imperiallegionnaire6943 why would you want to plug a washing machine & a dryer into a single power strip? if you use both at the same time the 16a fuse will likely blow
1
@imperiallegionnaire6943 many european homes have a single double power socket for a washing machine & a dryer so you don't need a power strip
1
@imperiallegionnaire6943 do you know those single european type e/f power sockets that are recessed inside the wall? those can be easily replaced with double european type e/f power sockets that are recessed outside the wall, do you know what i'm talking about?
1
american washing machines can only use 1500w (120v 15a) while european washing machines can use 2000w (230v 10a)
1
in my rental apartment somebody had put a bigger fuse in the fuse box
1
even if you had 100000000a wires then the dc plug would melt
1
why are most uk houses single phase even though most european houses are 3 phase?
1
in europe a 1.5mm² extension cord can easily deliver all the power a heater needs
1
having fuses in plugs is unsafe because if they keep blowing then people will use bigger fuses
1
@Stainless316L then people will replace the fuses with hex bits
1
some game consoles use a standard power cable so the kids can easily get another power cable
1
what country are you talking about? i know finland used tn-c
1
if 120v goes through your body into the ground the resistance will be so high that a 15a breaker will almost never trip
1
how can italy be only 3kw? the standard italian socket is 16a 3.6kw
1
old ungrounded euro sockets are rated for 230v 10a
1
an old fuse box is safe as long as you use the correct size fuses
1
you can accidentally plug a 10a australian plug into a 15a or even 20a australian socket
