@slipnsldnaway we’ve won every war we’ve been in since WW2. We drove the North Koreans and Chinese back across the 38th parallel in the fifties, we definitely won the Cold War, we trashed the NVA and the Vietcong, drove the Taliban out of Afghanistan, destroyed the Iraqi army in 6 weeks, etc. What we’ve done in the 80 or so years since WW2 is tried to avoid a nuclear confrontation, mostly with the Soviets but also with China since they got the bomb. Politicians are also influenced by popular opinion. If a war is unpopular, which most of them since WW2 have been, our political leaders tend to bend to that will at some point and will put limits on how the military conducts operations, like not allowing them to pursue enemy troops into Laos or Pakistan, or not allowing the military to use certain weapons or types of operations, etc. That sort of restraint was not at play in WW2. Ask Dresden or Tokyo about being fire bombed. We also dropped 2 nukes on Japan.
