And we may rest assured that, somewhere behind the scenes, someone from the US side has mentioned to Ukraine that perhaps we could lease some space in Ukraine for a military base or two. There is a lot the US could do. Perhaps Ukraine would be open to foreign volunteers helping rebuild, and offering Ukrainian citizenship if desired.

  21. The last time the Russian military was in an actual struggle, it was against Nazi Germany, which was running out of fuel & weapons & everything else, and had just been massively attacked on the western front. Those conditions don't apply now.

For instance, they don't have a lot of oil and we're not bringing regime change to them to make it easier for US firms to get that oil. And Ukraine somehow isn't part of Latin America either. Do the collective nations of "the west" have some interest in seeing Russia tied down and bleeding? Hell yeah. It was a double-point-score when Russia took forces away from the Finnish border to attack Ukraine .. it removed a hitherto everpresent threat from the border, and it showed Finland & Sweden what kind of critter Putin really is. It's kind of another double-point-score right now because Russia could begin the military rebuilding process the day after tomorrow if only they could get out of the wood chipper that Ukraine has become for them. The longer Russia stays in Ukraine, the more it loses. The forces already lost there, and the ones currently fighting there, and the ones en route there, are all detracting from Russia's ability to exert force in other places. Perhaps Georgia wants to join NATO next. Putin is getting his just desserts for getting too close to the guy whose motto was "Anything I don't like is fake news." And it would seem that this whole Ukraine misadventure got rolling only because he made it clear what he wanted to hear from reports on the ground in Ukraine.

Left to their own devices, they would be about as effective as those Russian units appear to be in Ukraine, which is not very effective at all. They ought to know better to get into a logistics war with the US, let alone all of NATO combined.
