@courcheval Actually you are wrong on a bunch of vectors there. For starters, Covid wasn't a Chinese bio-weapon any more than the 1918 pandemic was an American bio-weapon. For another, less than 2% of US covid deaths occurred in the 35-and-under age bracket, which is the max age for US military recruitment. Thank you for painting your ignorance so visibly ;)

Let's just say that persecution against LGBT's is one area where Putin and Trump's people are completely aligned. As are the Taliban.
1
Wonder how long before they set up the old "Iron Curtain" style western borders like the DDR used to have? Effectively to keep people from escaping.
1
Mr Putin made it clear months ago what he wanted: the population of Ukraine welcoming Russian troops with flowers and kisses. Somehow he missed the fact that bombing their homes and hospitals and schools and infrastructure is not the way to win over anyone's hearts. No amount of that would make anyone enjoy the neo-Soviet jackboot.
1
Perhaps much of their once-vaunted troll force has been conscripted into Wagner Group, then turned to vapor somewhere in Ukraine?
1
As inept as they were in many ways, the Soviets did at least marshal the resources of their territories far better than is being done by the current class of let's-ape-the-west oligarchs trying to live high off the hog in an essentially poor country. Putin and his circle fail to realize this rather basic truth.
1
@YannR34 Correct. Inside Russia, there were 3 other candidates who made it to the ballot. They had their chance.
1
Capitalism there is the exploitation of Russians by other Russians. Communism was the exact opposite. Their culture hasn't evolved much in centuries.
1
@BladeRunner21577 Are you talking about the same Ukraine that is very successfully kicking out Russian intruders? Or the Ukraine that seems to exist only in Russian imaginations, where the invaders get welcomed with open arms? Being in deep denial about how this "special operation" has been going isn't going to help you come to grips with how the rest of this is going to play out, but then, getting your "news" from Tass isn't helping you either.
1
Much of the world is on board with the sanctions that hurt the Russian economy, as a way of telling Putin that his invasion of Ukraine is a bad thing. While we may succeed in motivating Russia to overthrow Putin, there's no guarantee that his successor will be any more evolved than he is. It's not too hard to see Russia continuing to double down on the war and, in the process, making themselves as tight a place as North Korea.
1
@rxonmymind8362 Russians themselves DO have a way out of this: overthrow Putin, withdraw from Ukraine, begin negotiations for reparations. That will be a lot cheaper than staying in the war.
1
@tomrogers9467 And what is Germany now? A very strong ally, just like Japan. They let shortsighted folks like you run the show after WW1, and that led directly to WW2. We're not making that mistake again.
1
Putin's idol, Adolph Hitler, had to learn the hard way that bombing London only stiffened the will of the British.
1
The future's bright for kids in Ukraine. Many of them will go to school in the US. Their nation will be rebuilt to modern western standards. Easy visa reciprocity between them and the nations of the west. Meanwhile, across the border, people are still using outhouses and living in dirt-road towns that look as if WW2 ended just last week.
1
@schoolingdiana9086 Correct. Right now, Mr Putin is being pigheaded enough to let the west arm Ukraine enough to be a kill box for Russian forces. A pit into which they keep losing men and equipment. If this goes on for another year, Russia will be left with not much more warmaking capacity than Argentina.
1
@axiom21 If you're trying to argue why we should all stay home and let Hitler 2.0 wreck the world, you're not doing very good job. As the quote goes, appeasement means feeding your friends to a hungry alligator, hoping he eats you last.
1
Won't be long now before Putin goes full Iron Curtain to keep people from escaping. The world would be better off if he had just remained a cab driver in Berlin.
1
I assume there will be volunteer programs for folks who want to contribute labor.
1
Lovely burn 👍😅
1
On the plus side, one of those two countries is already there, notwithstanding the nonsense RT propaganda that is echoed in the US by Fox and other RT content distributors.
1
Does he expect anyone to take this shit show seriously?
1
I'd send them a couple containers of long distance GPS guided cruise missiles. The longer Russia stays in the Ukraine meat grinder (which is a monkey trap they built for themselves, LOL) the more they bleed out. They don't have the means even to threaten Finland properly - or to hang onto those nations north of Japan either.
1
All of the west stands with Ukraine. Putler's attempted takeover of your nation is not going to happen on our shift.
1
Russian oligarchs are a strange bunch. They like to be able to send their kids to school in the west, and they like their pricey enclaves in Florida and Dubai and the Cote d"Azur .. but at home they spit vitriol about "the decadent west" and that BS myth that they're being "surrounded". Huh.
1
@karrithebestlira3085 Correct. Russians are the foot soldiers of a mass-murdering maniac, and as such, the only thing to do is keep advancing and drive them out of Ukraine entirely.
1
@Bywater-S Russia should have gotten a good taste of our stuff at the battle of Khasham 2018 in Syria. A regular feeding fest with MQ-9s, F-22s, F-15Es, AH-64s. Their large force got turned into a much smaller force - at night.
1
@donnacollins1356 It's already being lined up to go full Marshall Plan on Ukraine when this is over. They're going to get modern everything. And I'm sure the US will get an air base somewhere west of Kyiv but not too far away. Meanwhile, across the RU border, there will still be cousins who never see flush toilets or washing machines.
1
@JustARandomFio Russia apparently can't do anything to stop slow-moving Cessnas from delivering very small warheads to refineries and arms manufacturing facilities. Their bad luck will presumably be somewhat worse when instead it's F35s delivering 2000lb bombs. The ghost of Stormin' Norman has been summoned and given an office and staff.
1
Bad decisions like that happen when you live in a disinformation bubble and are told only what you want to hear. Which usually happens to most dictators.
1
Even worse, by now he must know that the fabled 'Ukraine takeover' scenario is not going to happen, but he bet the farm on it hard that doing a 180 would mean instant political suicide for him personally .. so for the sake of his ego he's keeping this horrific war going. Kinda like Trump bet his all on lies about the election, and how conceding his 2020 loss would be his political end, so he'd rather trash the country than admit doing wrong.
1
The USA stands proudly with Ukraine. Keep an eye out for the "special batch" HIMARS missiles coming your way. Something extra extra hot for the orcs. We got your six.
1
As of the onset of the current hotter hostilities (Feb-2022) Russia had still not recovered from the demographic dislocations of WW2 and of the time after the collapse of the USSR, when lifespans shrank quickly and many essentially passed of poverty. Putin's idiotic war is costing Russia its future in so many ways. The population decline there will be even more stark in 20 years.
1
Knowing the Russians, they probably shelled another apartment bloc and claimed it was really an S-300 system.
1
.. on less than a PBR budget too.
1
Putin, no matter what precautions he takes, will end up like every other Russian leader who failed grotesquely in his primary responsibilities of office. There's going to be an ice pick involved. Only question is, will his replacement continue to prosecute this illegal unprovoked failing war on Ukraine?
1
Putler must be the only one who takes this horseshit seriously.
1
The question facing the rest of the world is this: if we allow Putin to continue his assault on the people of Ukraine, when will he get hungry again for more territory? Which people will be next on the chopping block? Appeasement is not a good idea. The world tried that with Hitler.
1
Why yes. The Soviets, for all their many faults, did at least manage to extend job / education / housing / medical / pension rights to the vast majority of the citizens of their territories. Since the dissolution of the USSR, inequality there has vastly risen, and that has dire consequences in what is essentially a large poor nation with first-world ambitions.
1
Russia seems to be using Hitler's playbook for the Gleiwitz incident - where the Nazis staged an attack on the radio stations of the German enclave of Poland in order to get an excuse to attack Poland.
1
Weird. Yah I couldn't sleep that night either.
1
Crank up the pain until Putin gets the message. He's not listening? Crank it up further. Rinse and repeat as necessary. And as a nod to the SAS guys - Russia doesn't need that nice cosmodrome anymore as they've vowed to leave the ISS. Be a shame if it were to burn down.
1
This has got to be a whole new, very spiteful chapter in the history of war. Does Russia think they are endearing themselves to anyone by these actions?
1
@Heinrich Hertz Haw haw. Putler just announced a pause in advancement. Translation: the west is sending additional advanced missile systems against which the invaders have no defenses. Even better is the way Putler keeps losing million-dollar combat vehicles to thousand-dollar missiles which the west provides in abundance. If Putler had any knowledge of business, he might realize what a losing proposition that is.
1
Worse than 1940s Nazis.
1
Well what did we expect? An impotent Russia, unable to win on the battlefield, could only go full terrorist on the people of Ukraine. And the Ukrainians, bless them, said "This stops here. You go no further"
1
No. That thing pulls crazy gees getting to target.
1
Still winning? The Conquest-o-Meter has been stuck at around 19% for months now. What do they need, another 750+ days to push it up to 20% territory taken? Some great military. And, aside from the battle of Kasham, Ivan hasn't yet experienced a dustup with a first rate military.
1
@DUCKDUCKGOISMUCHBETTER What was Trump the greatest at? Losing? His first popular vote loss was 3M. Four years later that loss had widened to 8M votes. This works out to an annualized growth of 27% increase per year in voter dissatisfaction towards Trump. At that rate, his 2024 loss could be above 20M votes. He'll be in jail by then anyway and unable to hold any further office due to his crimes. So you may as well drink tequila and cry into your MyPillow.
1
@DUCKDUCKGOISMUCHBETTER No no no no re "margin of victory". Trump lost. It's that simple. He got way fewer votes than the other guy. You may as well be walking around screeching that Nazi Germany won WW2, when the only swastikas in sight are the ones worn by Trump's inbred followers.
1
It would be funny watching them try that. Perhaps Putler isn't aware that civilians in the US can own .50BMG rifles? Griz is gonna smell the blood and come looking for food.
