Where does he say that? In what minute?

Because taxation is theft. ... what an idiot. And law is crime right, and black is white and you don't know what you are talking about.

I already know ... can't fool a fool DM.

15:14 - How is this going to get rid of parking lots ?
1
Vexed Films I don't see that as a big win, or perhaps not a win at all. Your car is driving and using energy and the streets. If something goes wrong you won't even know where you car is to go get it. Around here we have a private school in a residential neighborhood where hundreds of cars all converge on a small area of sidewalk to drop their kids off. Having this run by driverless cars I am not sure it would work very well, at least at first. It makes more sense to me to have some way of parking your car so you are not using energy and making pollution. Also ... if you are inside and your car is out parking or driving without anyone in it ... who is responsible if it gets in an accident .. let's hope it is Google! ;-)

DynamicUnreal Are you following the conversation at all or just popping off? Some ideas might be fine for the medium term future, but right now many if not most people need their cars, or they would be taking public transit. Go ahead and do whatever you want with your car, I just do not think that parking lots are going away any time soon, and if they are not, all those cars will be on the streets making traffic worse.

I think you need to listen closer, and maybe read some of Haidt's books or at least the reviews of his books on Amazon.

That is called a false equivalency - all sports are not equal in head injuries ... football is by far the greatest and most common ... and then there is boxing too - both should be done away with.

I was smart enough to quit after Jr. High ... Penny ... you're opinion not even worth 2 cents.

@kynshra8960 No it didn't.

What is China's political system? There is great innovation and hard work ... a lot of plusses. But a lot of what seems like virtual slavery. And it certainly seems like nothing humanistic when you see how Chinese are treated, the products they get, and the great corruption we see in China. There is also the expansion of China into Tibet, and building cities of ethnic Chinese in the middle of another people's country - and not acknowledgement of it or discussion about it. There is China's apparent state of war with Taiwan. And what for? To protect who? To serve who? For what purposes? How can China and the US together work to challenge each other and make both systems better, because certainly neither is perfect, or anywhere near it.

I don't think nationalism should be defended, but making people defensive and threatening their society is not good ... in other words nationalism should be not offended either ... a path forward is the work that needs to be done. Similar to religion, all religions are pretty crazy, but people take them seriously, so they need to be respected and understood, but with the end goal or some kind of global reformation or tolerance and cooperation.

I'd like to conflict this guy with a baseball bat and then ask him what he thinks of conflict. What a schmuck!
1
I agree with that assessment, but where does "Princeton" say that?
1
It might if it was posed like that ... but most of these things are like gee whiz marketing and mind-conditioning vignettes. Like on the right of my screen is something about a TED Talk that says "How To Grow A Tiny Forest Anywhere." Well, it does not say how to grow a tiny forest. It makes the claim that this company can do that, but it does not give any specifics at all. I think TED Talks need to be vetted to video talks that tell people real information that is useful in some real world way. I am not sure this is, and I am very sure the tiny forest one was not.

Where are those 9 countries ??? ;-)

I can understand I think just about everything else, but I don't have a good idea about how these cars decide at a stop sign or see a stop light or interpret it. That seems to be hard to figure out to me.
1
yes they do, they just do not realize it ... like they speak different languages, but there are some old and bad systems that remain that should not be respected and need to be cleaned up ... by a global authority. the question is how to engineer that global authority and make it work for everyone.
1
I think pretty much everyone but criminals though has shared values as far as how a business transaction should take place - fairly, with no corruption. I think that is most if not all of what Globalism really needs. The real problem them would be selfishness and corruption.

***** What did they do?

There was an interesting science fiction book about a sentient computer than learned to blink its lights in a pattern that would hypnotize the people around it and eventually took over the installation it was in and began to branch outward from there to taking over the world. An intelligent computer has everything a human would have - only would be better at using it, more patient, and longer viewed. We had better hope that they are all benevolent, because if even one of them gets loose we might have an existential threat since it might have already found ways to hide and propagate itself by the time we have found it.
1
This is not learning, it is more of a consolidation of statistics with rules applied to them. The machine is not learning anything, it does not know what it is dealing with ... it doesn't understand context, or use something learned in one area to its advantage in another - not does it even understand "it's advantage".

What a ditship comment

Bouncy Hippo >> Seems like even if a certified "expert" came up to you and told you the best way to live, you would still hate whatever he or she said What would a certified expert tell me? What is a certified expert. Certified expertise really is very rare. Mostly expertise in many things is made up as a marketing ploy. Whtat Mostly I would not hate anything, I would just think that trying to give anyone generalized advice about life is pretty useless. Nothing anyone can say to someone else is really going to apply to a problem they have or set a direction for them. This kind of thing is a weird mental space for people that is not something people can really control. The thing that I don't like about this kind of thing is a lot of people getting together to do something useless that will not make a bit of difference, except to pay the speaker and just hang out with each other pretending. I just don't like it, that's all.
1
***** That's just like you phony a-holes pretending you are positive life-affirming folks, inside you're just looking for a reason to dump on other people because you are so insecure and fake.
1
***** You would not know what irony was if it hit you over the head ... my username is because i can recognize BS when i see it a mile or more away.

@thumbprint7150 HEY DIP ... it's 4 years, if you have something to say learn how to communicate or don't bother to waste time.

Where there is money to be made, there is a white Australian who is willing to speak up and try to make the Chinese look good! ;-)

His Dad has too many children.

So .... are these circumstances set up? Not sure what that changes, but it should be made clear. I guess if you are going to film something well you have to know about what is going to happen?

Michael Sandel would have made a much better Chief Justice of the Supreme Court than John Roberts.

A neuroscientist that can't keep track of his keys? Blame it on the cortisol. But this is a good thing to know - that 90% of the drugs work in only 30-50% of the people? Find out the Number Needed to Treat & what are the Side Effects.

So ... if God existed outside of the Universe ... where did he come from and what environment does the universe exist it. Maybe the Universe and God are inseparable ... meaning the reason the universe exists, is God ... after all. Algebraically BLANK + nothing = THE WORLD ... so BLANK = THE WORLD ... so God must be equal to the world, but it's just another way of saying we need to define what the world is.
1
Totally respect this guy and his invention of the web, and his mind ... but man, he is hard to listen to because he is so jumpy and jerky and his voice goes all over the place. Is he OK, or just nervous? I've seen better talks from him before.
1
It seems like to me that you might apply this equation to evolution ... that is, evolution like to keep options open, that is it likes to conserve events that repeat and build off those events. So could you say that the whole universe is intelligence, or that intelligence is a dimension of the universe over time? In any case, I am not really sure how you could use that equation to program or measure intelligence, and what about intelligence that makes mistakes, because that seems to be the nature of intelligence once it separates from the blind force or physical evolution and gets into creating simple virtual model of the universe for its own manipulations? Manipulations that can very well lead to extinction. So, if a civilization gets the level we have gotten to, and then kills itself off through it's own actions, is it not intelligent?

Vexed Films These condescending scientists, especially the ones that really do not have much to say, rehash the whole history of the world to pad a talk, this guy started with the flat Earth. If the internet were really efficient this talk, this idea could be expressed in just a minute or two, and then linked to valuable discussions and insights, and then to other related subjects. It's been around popularly for 20 years now, wonder why are standards for saying something are not higher? ;-)

Let's hope they do not blow this and we all have to battle Terminator robots to try to keep alive.

Sure would like to know how to spell that Greek guy's name??

This is one of the best TED talks I have heard. Fantastic.

People in the Mountain View, CA area are idiots as drivers. So I am happy to see this system take over, and look to it to evolve and get better, and maybe even communicate between cars in the future. But, one thing, if people drive less they will get to be even worse drivers than they are now ... did you ever thing of that? ;-)
1
I see these cars driving through Mountain View Calfornia every day. Another thing I wonder about is what about construction zones where there is a worker directing traffic that has a stop or slow sign and manually routes someone through the zone?

+IlluminatiOfficial Is that the best you can offer? Why bother?

+Saga I wish I had a magical club to bong people over the head who continue to have to insult and be rude to people on message boards. You have a reasonable point to make, are you so insecure that you have to say that you get the real point which went over the head ... and insult ... of another person who may see it another way than you do. People have habituated their reflexes to communicate like this it is a stupid , unconscious, bad habit that we all feel the pull to do because everyone else does it. Why not just say, you got such and such out of the talk? Really, what made the difference that you had to throw that over the head thing in there, or did you every think about it?

I'd love to live in a place where the weather and climate allowed for houses like this ... absolutely beautiful!

And what was the relationship of Stasi totalitarianism to the former Nazi totalitarianism which was similar with the SS being the forerunner to the Stasi?
1
Are thumbs down because it is not in English? I can see being disappointed that English speakers cannot understand the Pope, but a thumbs-down? Thankfully if one clicks the CC button there are subtitles.

Do you have a point there ?

***** >> we have the technology to sustain 20 billion and "still leave room for nature" Firstly that is a BS, but even if it was true, when we get to 20 billion we hit 40 billion in 20 more years, then 80 billion. It has to end something, but you're too stupid to really get that. What the guy's video on the exponential function if you care to gain some understanding, otherwise just remain ignorant.
1
Brilliant. Now, how do you get those super-peckers at the top to give up their power ... doesn't seem like it will happen.
1
That is the way they keep voting from changing anything ... and they continually want to reduce the cost and uncertainty of that.
