  2.  @jackkruese4258  The Monarch does appoint & dismiss Ministers now, it's convention not law which determines that this happens on the 'advice' of the Prime Minister. The last Prime Minister dismissed by the Monarch was Lord Melbourne in 1834, I think that's probably recent enough that the Courts would support the King.

  4.  @piccalillipit9211  the sale of Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia was definitely "cruel & unusual punishment", she & her husband were intimately involved in her design & build from the keel upwards & the interiors were entirely Philip's design. She travelled over a million miles, often with the family aboard so is part of the family's memories. Leaving her evidently fully seaworthy & parked in Leith has to have been rubbing salt into the wound these 25 years. The Royal Flight similarly was a hobby of the then Prince of Wales in the 1930s with the finest aircraft in the world & was entirely privately owned for the first few decades. Blair swapping this for a tanker with posh chairs must have been shocking.

I see it as the punishment for the failure of the Republic projected onto the Monarchy when Parliament was forced to restore Charles II to the English throne in 1660 (he had been occupying the Scottish throne since Parliament executed Charles I in 1649). Why Parliament can't own its mistakes I don't know. I feel fairly sure this is part of why our new King has chosen the name Charles III, it emphasizes the history & is a permanent reminder. Parliamentarians will be forced to say the name "King Charles" repeatedly.

  8.  @piccalillipit9211  Parliament has been publishing videos on Youtube of the work they've had carried out. It looks like it's small-scale patching but it's skilled craftsmen replacing parts built using original materials & techniques. Some of the videos are fascinating. They've blown it when the bells need re-casting though, the foundry has gone, I think during Johnson's tenure as Mayor of London. As I recall all they needed was a small loan but skinflint BoJo wasn't interested. Centuries of history & skill down the pan & I think it was the only bell foundry big enough on this side of Europe.
