  3. @DB that's the fundamental flaw with unions, they're working people organizing together in mutual support. Where the problem lies is in that the membership went through the State education system where they were very deliberately & systematically dis-educated. Working people do not receive a balanced, complete or rounded education so their thinking is flawed in the most fundamental ways. Union leaders are elected from among the membership. This is sufficient explanation for their support for Brexit & (until recently) lack of support for Proportional Representation

  5. There were 3 main armies in the English Civil wars. You mention all 3 yet state that there were only 2 armies – why? The armies were Parliament, King & Levellers. The Levellers, as you say, represented the common people. We lost. Did it make any difference that Parliament beat the Crown & beheaded the King in 1649? Parliament were the landowners, the ones who meted out the day-to-day atrocities under Monarchy so did people see any difference in their lived experience? Probably not. Did the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660 make any difference? Maybe a little, maybe a slight improvement but probably not for most. You also fail to note the big Constitutional change, the Bill of Rights of 1688, the settlement that handed essentially all power to Parliament. Monarchs do what they are told, meet who they are told to meet where & when they are told to meet them. Monarchs are tools of Parliament. If you have beef with the way the country is run blame Parliament, they're the ones doing it. We lost. No levelling happened. Parliament won but with acknowledgement that they needed the Crown.

  31.  @fluentpiffle  there's lots of unoccupied islands off the coast of central & south America, it wouldn't take much research at the local records office to find an unowned one & just move in. I expect the same is true around much of Africa. Alternatively, you could build yourself a raft from flotsam, I recommend half an acre, put some soil on top & set yourself adrift. I recommend you head for one of the gyres if you want to ensure you're undisturbed by getting washed up on shore. Waves can get a little high on occasion though. Perhaps you're a little less adventurous? There are places in Scotland where you can go 50 miles without any sign of human existence, you could build yourself a teepee or wigwam & just stay 25 miles from civilization. You might get the Police come up every few months to see if you're still alive. Aside from that sort of idea you're stuck with the herding instincts of our species & it's weird ideas of ways to stop us killing each other.

In reality if too much is drawn from a company the company collapses & many have over the centuries. You also ignore management & owners who are the central players. In the real world management play both workers & shareholders to achieve their aims. For example both British Leyland & Ford used to run their production lines slightly fast & when they built up too much of a stockpile would cause an upset & provoke a strike, only "backing down" when the stockpile had cleared sufficiently. Companies don't pay workers while they're striking so the outlay is minimal & in years where supply is close to demand they don't provoke strikes. Shareholders are also played though the mechanisms & aims are different.
