  5.  @normanclark933  it's the Le Touquet Treaty, signed by Tony Blair in 2003 & its amendments (Sangatte etc), which allows France to put a border post in Dover & us to put one in Calais. They're standard border posts implementing the same rules with the same authority as if they were on home territory. If your hypothetical driver doesn't like the rules they can turn around & go home exactly the same as if the posts were on home territory. It makes a lot of sense to me as the ferry takes time & costs money.

  6. The changeover to USB-C is coming from the manufacturers anyway, they've been trending towards it for a few years now. Apple is the only large holdout & they're doing it because their hardware is actually superior. Apple did it before with the Apple Desktop Bus on laptops & desktop computers which was adopted industry-wide as the original USB. Bringing over American phones isn't going to work because their other standards are very very different starting with a different selection of frequencies, different cell-to-cell handovers & a myriad minor differences which would mean we would have to rip out every cell tower & start again. Oh, & they're changing over to USB-C too.

  8. Thank you! It's about time you mentioned hedgefunds & 55 Tufton Street. Can you now also address "the most powerful lobby in Parliament"? They seem to have 2 main agendas, to destroy the party which elected Jeremy Corbyn as leader & the century-old one (well, 1870s onwards) to promote their cause in all international bodies, particularly Permanent Seats at the UN Security Council.

  15.  @atomiccritter6492  we have Law. A written Constitution would (probably) not change that. Everybody physically on the territory of the United Kingdom (& Office holders abroad) has to comply with the Law. To deal with Johnson one law rises above the rest - Misconduct in Public Office, it's Commonlaw so it's vague & relies on the integrity of the Supreme Court but it should hold, if it does it will ban him from Public Office forever (plus some other penalties like 35 years in jail). He has been put up for it before but a corrupt Judge threw it out (case unheard) at the High Court stage. A corrupt judge wouldn't uphold a constitution any more than he would uphold law.

  26.  @Duck-wc9de  the EU & it's institutions is mainly a balance of neoliberal & socialist, centrists see this for what it is but extremists see it from their own perspective, neoliberals see it as excessively socialist & socialists see it as excessively neoliberal. I don't know Portuguese politics but is it possible that the Portuguese right-wing either aren't neoliberals or are more centrist than other right wings?

Starmer, the obvious replacement for Johnson, owes his position to Israel (just like Blair before him), indeed his first batch of pledges was to the Board of Deputies, not to Party or country. Watch closely, the Murdoch Press will swing behind him as the next election approaches.

Israel too puts it's military facilities in urban areas, as does the UK, there's barracks on Whitehall, in Colchester, York, all the old towns & ports, even some military airfields. It's not possible that Israel wants its hostages back, they've already bombed a known 10% of them & the escaping convoy they bombed yesterday, killing 70 people, was very likely to have contained hostages. Plus the kibbutz where burned bodies were found was fired on by an Israeli tank (causing the burns) & before you whine this evidence is from a survivor.

It's Civil Law so the level of proof is "on the balance of probabilities" rather than the tougher "beyond reasonable doubt" of Criminal Law but there hasn't yet been a successful prosecution against an MP, a few Police have been prosecuted. The last attempt (2018? against BoJo, for lying) by Marcus J Ball was thrown out unheard by Judges Supperstone & Rafferty. Supperstone at least was later found to be a mate of BoJo's dad & also drank with half the Cabinet. The Judges' watchdog wanted none of it, as far as I know the case before the watchdog was not heard either.

  50. ​ @Boppy-B-B there must be quite a bit of infrastructure because Dounreay is on the north coast & Scotland used to have the biggest coal-fired power station in Europe, plus there's lots of hydro including most of the pumped-hydro, all of which has been in place many decades & will have been upgraded as facilities are added en route.
