The "tunnels under the Qatari Hospital" turned out to be a water cistern, something which is extremely common throughout the region dating back earlier than Roman times. The "beheaded babies" lie is still circulating as well as all the other lies despite extensive debunking. It's much more effective not to release unverified claims in the first place! STOP RELEASING UNVERIFIED CLAIMS!

  14.  @christophermichaelclarence6003  Germany was phasing out its nuclear power stations after Fukushima though that decision has been paused since Russia's war in Ukraine. Several villages & even some towns run on domestic cooperatives of rooftop solar & community-owned wind.

  27. @lawman3966, you seem to have forgotten that USA built it's electricity supply on hydroelectric, much of it can be recommissioned fairly rapidly, certainly within the 8 years available.

Priorities is the first thing that needs to shift, at the moment Combined Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGT) are the main generators of electricity in many countries with wind & solar held on standby, this should be reversed with renewables maximized & CCGT on standby, even rolling standby produces less CO₂ than the current arrangement. Bring CCGT online for the (very predictable) morning peak then put on standby till the evening peak & most plant shut down overnight.

  29.  @jmpattillo  no, we don't need to push any nuclear, 4th gen, 20th gen, any gen, it's too late, we have 8 years to deal with this mess according to the IPCC & that's not long enough to bring nuclear online. Keep doing the development work, it may well be needed in the future but right now our focus has to be on the short term.

  30.  @loieitan  no, they're selling more than they can make. Pretty much every country is adding capacity right now, even the UK (which we are told is the leader) is planning to double it's installed capacity of offshore wind in the very short term & proportionally more solar & onshore wind.

  31.  @jmpattillo  that's not a useful comparison & it's wrong anyway, putting a man on the moon took centuries, it was only the very last phase you're talking about. Right now, if we get this wrong we lose all 8 billion people on the planet. Nuclear is, for the moment, a distraction from a task we have to complete within 8 years despite considerable political opposition, mostly from entrenched interests like oil, agriculture, pharmaceuticals & yes, nuclear.

  32.  @xxwookey  yes, and I was informing you & anyone else reading that the IPCC has revised that '2035' target date to '2030'. Additionally, they inform us that emissions must peak before 2025 -- a year and a half. That's to achieve a 50% chance of our species surviving past the end of the century. We are currently on track for 2.6°C which is not even close to a 50% survivability chance.
