Got to quibble with one of your statements. Jews had been forced out, in mass, prior to 1948. Following bloody massacres in Haifa, Shimon Hatzadek (Jerusalem), Hevron and Aza, the Jews not murdered were ethnically cleansed from those places, by the British. There were Jewish communities, east of the Jordan river. The first Israeli electric power station was built by Pinchus Rutenberg, in Naharayim, in 1932. Of course, when all Jewish land, east of the Jordan, was given to the Arabs, the Jews, living and working there, were forced out.
