  12. Even though my guy was born in Jerusalem, as were his parents (before Israel was a state), he had a hard time proving his Jewishness. The rabbanut wanted proof his parents were Jews, despite the fact both of his grandfathers were rabbis, one Ashkenazi, the other Sephardic. His maternal grandfather was a very prominent rabbi, who had served as assistant to the Chief Rabbi, yet the rabbanut doubted his bone fides as a Jew, because he wasn't Haredi, but modern Orthodox.

The same thing is found in black and Hispanic communities in the US, and also Arabs communities in Europe, despite being in otherwise orderly countries. There were complaints about gun violence in Israeli Arab communities, but when the police tried to remove illegal weapons, the criminals fought back, and an innocent was shot. Was the outrage over all the illegal weapons, or the terrible Israeli police for daring to go into an Arab community? Was is most domestic violence found in Arab communities? Is that due to the police too? Don't blame the police, blame the culture.

  22. No European country has banned that symbol of oppression, the hijab. Switzerland has banned full face veils, for security reasons, which would not cause anger in a sane person. France has banned all religious symbols, only in their state schools, to create unity among the students. Also, no sane person would have a problem with that, especially since the option to go to a religious school exists.

No other government has to deal with such a corrupt, partisan and authoritarian judiciary, that overturns laws without a constitution by which to access them. No other country has "advisors", appointed by others, have the ultimate authority on whether or not the government can act. The move, to being a more just, equal and democratic country is necessary. Only racists would be against the reform.

But, honest people love the fact she speaks the truth, and doesn't call the criminals, who illegally came into Israel, migrants. And she's right about the land. The Jews are the natives, not the arabs. And the judicial reforms aren't divisive, the absurd protests against them are.

In 2008, when the local regional council tried to limit the size of the event, the Haredim just ignored them. The high court blocked other attempts to control crowd size, after the Knesset voted in favor of a resolution, to do so. The former mayor of Meron, tried for two decades, to limit crowd size, and prevent illegal buildings, such as an ad hoc hostel, from blocking the narrow alleyways. Each attempt was answered with anger and defiance, from the Haredim. Due to Covid-19, in 2020, the government attempted to limit the crowd to 3,000, the Haredim ignored all requests to observe sensible public health measures. The local police and fire departments sent letters to the Haredi councils, responsible for organizing this event, telling them it was unsafe to have such large crowds, without adding three more emergency exits. All governmental attempts, both regional and national, were either ignored, rebuffed or blocked in court. The only governmental agency, nominally responsible, was the Ministry of Religious Services, which on Lag B'Omer 2020 was headed by Yitzhak Vaknin, of the Shas party. He resigned a few days after the disaster. If any member of government, is to blame, it is Vaknin, not Netanyahu. But, the real culprits are the high court, who blocked all safety measures, and the Haredim, for pig headedly ignoring all pleas to observe safety measures.

  45. In the video I saw, the terrorist had a knife, and out of the blue, started stabbing an innocent man. The police saved that victim's life. And the terrorist was trying to throw the knife at the police, when they fired the final shot. The video you're talking about was highly edited, to remove the knife. The victim has been interviewed, and he describes the violent, unprovoked attack. He credits the police with saving his life.

In that, Bellos is spot on. If not for Netanyahu asking Ben Gvir to form a temporary bloc with Tziunot Datit, Smotrich would not have crossed the threshold. He only has 7 seats to bargain with because of Ben Gvir's patriotic generosity. Smotrich needs to tamp down his ego, and do what is good for the state, as Ben Gvir has. Bellos is correct, that Israelis don't want to have to live in a strictly halachic fashion. It is already disturbing enough that the Kotel area has been divided. But, Likud still holds the most seats, and Netanyahu would not allow that. Even most Haredi don't want that. Look at what happened in Beit Shemesh, where some of the more extreme males decided to segregate the sidewalks, one side for men, the other for women. A new mayor, a Haredi woman, was elected, who put an end to that nonsense. Why do they continue to have this Oppenheimer idiot on? He has never utter a true statement in his life. He persists in believing whatever nonsense he was indoctrinated with, and ignoring reality. "Representation of the wrong" is a good label for him. His constant interruptions are infuriating. What is the value of the opinion of an idiot, whose stupidity most of the country has rejected? It is clear, that giving up land for peace only brings terror, and that the poorly conceived Oslo Accord is dead. Israelis need to be able to live safely, in their homeland, and build homes. There are plenty of Arab states, where Jews either may not live or are oppressed, Israel needs to be a Jewish state, all of it, including all of Aza, Yudah and Shomron.
