I was on the USS Forrestal for 11 months and we refueled about every 3 days and also fueled our escorts.. underway refueling is very serious business and we drilled emergency breakaway every time .. and once we actually had an emergency.. this is all done with specialized ships and very well trained crews .. it’s really not for amateurs

  35. Great Stuff Sal .. you are right about China Learning fir free from our mistakes .. I was on the Forrestal CV 59 .. we burned bunker oil and had JP5 which we refueled our planes and the Frigates with , also had some regular gasoline for tractors etc.. plus a little AvGas for the COD…Maybe these days it’s just jet fuel and gasoline ..funny how they are still called Oilers ..
