I was on an aircraft carrier at anchor in the bay of Naples …we had some surprisingly bad weather come up .. and being in a harbor , the sea conditions became choppy, confused , and bizarre .. with all the wave reverberations … That ship design with a single mast is for putzing around the Med .. not serious weather…. A knockdown is fun in a Little sailboat… but tragically not in this case …

The sound of Cracking Carbon Fiber is a horrible sound like bones breaking.. they had a system to monitor the cracking sounds to see if they were getting worse … I can’t believe they thought that was a safety feature ..it looks like they were counting on the adhesive to keep the titanium end caps on , and there was no other consideration for dealing with any tension from end to end .. so those could have popped of like bottle caps ..

  40.  @tedmoss  Arctic oil spills are especially nasty and all that oil in old ships with cut rate crews … I have been to the sea of Murmansk… the sea states are bizarre there .. I wouldn’t insure anything there

Well Done Sal .. it is a Damm Shame it took the Lives of those Two Firefighters to spur political action..The port makes plenty of money and maybe they should raise the rates on these hazardous vessels.. and copy what Long Beach is doing.. These Hazardous vessels should have special inspections.. As I couldn’t think of anything worse than hundreds of old cars .. if we had tanker fires or LNG fires it would be all over the news .. but these stories only get covered by you .. Thanks Very Much as I’m sure this topic hits home for you
