The mechanics that can solve problems, and enjoy the challenge of doing it right, are the best mechanics. 🫡

Such a variety pack. Golden curry, chocolate sauce, BBQ sauce, mint sauce, flame grilled (until burnt) rod chops and pleanty of nuggets and popcorn pieces to dip in it all. Amazing

@JAMESWUERTELE bloody hell, that's crap!

Loved your comment of the "bearing pressure tensioner". I had a good laugh at that one. Couldn't have been more accurate though! That sump pan was so full, of bearing material, you just knew the bottom end was going to be a total mess. This teardown had it all. Really enjoyed it.

@sammcbride2464 K-Jetronic is definitely mechanical fuel injection, no electrical parts other than maybe the fuel pump. I used to work on fuel injection systems 20 years ago and occasionally would see some mechanical injection parts come in. The injectors themselves were a very simple pulsating valve, that either worked, or didn't. If they didn't spray properly, they went in the bin. The other bits were so rarely seen the boss usually worked on them himself. It wasn't worth his time teaching me.

A work colleague of mine has an Ecoboost powered Escape. 6 years old, done less that 100,000km/60,000 miles. Well looked after and.... the head gasket has gone. Common problem, apparently, too....

@rudolphna54 you actually said the reason why right there. Ford. Mazda is no longer associated with Ford and design their own engines. All the better for it.

@I_Do_Cars Eric is this one you've done on the channel? I don't recall. Maybe it's just you've done an lot of the bad ones, I don't know. Ford just seems to me to always make too many cheap shortcuts with their engines.

Wouldn't say these are great, but have seen pleanty worse on this channel.

I had a good laugh at this teardown. The pallate collapsing under the strain was gold, and without a 2nd thought, you just kept going. Loved it!

@encinobalboa try it with a cast camshaft and see what happens. Eric has done this once too. Just dropped it....

Not doubting your theory, it actually makes a lot of sense. But any idea why they would purposely wreck the heads?
1
@Thomas McNulty I assume this is because it was in an accident? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me if the car was sold as a repairable write-off

I did several weeks of work experience on these things fitted in Holden Commodores. Most common fault about them seemed to be leaking rear main seals/covers from the factory. Just about every one of them had to be fixed under warranty. This included the VT Commodore my father bought a couple of years later which did get a couple other leaks, but nothing dramatic. Only other issue that I know of being a regular problem was the ignition system giving out and requiring replacement. My Dad had more issues with various other parts of his rather than the engine, though it always idled rough. Never got to the bottom of that.

I've become a regular viewer of late, this is easily the most entertaining and interesting installment I've seen thus far. One thing though, as funny as the plastic tub "safety shield" is, perhaps a proper face shield would be a good investment? They're a lot cheaper than a new eye.
