I remember well as it is often used in our Logic Labs during those study days.
1
I remember Lucent Technologies an offshoot of AT&T. They produces communication chips. Now its under Alcatel.
1
Hehehe
1
It is. We call it Bubble tea in Southeast Asia.
1
Well, Im still working in the semiconductor mfg. From assembly and test field up to wafer fabrication mfg from 90s up to present.
1
You didn’t include Singapore in the ballgame. GF Fab7H was promised to be completely build up in 2 year but did in 1 and a half year. Same with Micron and ST Micro.
1
They're in the forefront in researching color LCD technology and tied up with Phillips, too. I've read this news in one of the monthly 1986 editions of Popular Mechanics. But later on, Sony slowed down in research for LCD technology. One of the starts of their downfall in the TV screens and monitor production.

Our company is very strict in handling, usage, storage in recycling chemicals and gases. Singapore government is very strict in implementing environmental laws of the land.
1
I give you an example: I'm from Asia. There are instances during the early covid period that our technicians were sent to a sister company in Germany just to clean their Etching tools. - Other factors: Not enough manpower. Another one: Work ethics in the fab industry. They dont do Overtime work with pay. Just what we obseved.
1
One of our concern is HF.
1
It's still cheaper to produce chips in Asia.
1
Back then, a faulty tv can be sent out for repair, or a Serviceman comes to repair a tv. It's really expensive to have a color tv in the 60s to 80s.

Philippines lose out
1
We have a term for that in Singapore- Kiasu. Kiasuism. - The fear of losing out in everything.
1
Dont you know that there's a fab somewhere in Australia? I knew that because a friend/colleague of mine who moved there 20 years ago, retired and ask me for some consultancy in moving out procedures for fab tools to other part of Down Under?
1
@Gameboygenius Yeah, for defence industries.
1
It seems that you are a photo literate or specializing in photography,
1
@sixstringedthing Scanning Ion beam? Then its almost like an ion implanter!
1
Instrumentation Oy! What a name!
1
Some facts about IDAHO 1. Idaho is popularly known for Russet Potatoes- An Easter egg for this is that in an AMI Chip is that most of their designed chips have a drawing of an Idaho State viewable thru a microscope. 2. MOSTEK, AMI, and Micron. 3. Ion Implant first performed by Mostek.
1
@TAP7a Yeah, why then that these 2 states were favored to have those new fabs build over there?
1
Backside is the best side. Pun intended
1
This is TSMC Centric site?😂
1
You're good! You pray and hope that people are mostly safe and have consoled those who are greatly affected. Anyway, That is why some Taiwanese fabs in Singapore is operating and expanding, no earthquake here. EDB of Singapore is partly investing on those fabs too.
1
@andrefalksmen1264 A lot of Taiwanese studied in America and most of them in the field of STEM. Some of them previously worked in defunct American fabs and returned to Taiwan and started the Fabs . One glaring example is Morris Chang founder of TSMC.
1
Do you still remember the "Sharp and not sharp" commercials? It's all done for all of their consumer products.
1
Vanguard is owned by TSMC, isn't it?
1
@gregorymalchuk272 We have a periodic Arsenic level, so far it is not high and normal as he has a protective SCBA when he did that.
1
I meant we have an Arsenic level test that day and periodically.
1
News is spreading that China is doing that due to restrictions by the US. I won't be surprised that 1 day, they will just announce that they have an EUV tool. They will do anything to achieve that includes spying, hacking, stealing, etc.
1
Horses and bovine manure contributes environmental damage too.
1
Yes for Lithography. As mentioned and replied by Gameboygenius
1
No. They are putting it to the US as they think China will soon invade Taiwan.
1
Enter Nissin Cup Noodle!!
1
@Taiwan is a country I am still working in a fab for more than 20 years in Implant. I still scrub the Source Region chamber.
1
Actually in Southeast Asia.,you cans ask the server 0 sugar 25 , 50. or full sugar before served to you.
1
From being a behemoth ATT, then splits into many companies, including one communication chips bought by Broadcomm: Avago.
1
And in Photolitography!
1
TSMC(Systems on Silicon Mfg. Co. or SSMC) is also putting up another 12-inch Fab in Singapore.
1
I saw one fab transitioned from 200mm to 300mm wafers. That company is TECH Singapore and bought by Micron where the transition happens.
1
Heehee
1
@ImKinoNichtSabbeln Do you drive or ride a train? Isnt that tiring? AFAIK, and some examples are from suburbs to city for work and vice versa. They have to leave their homes at 5am and reach home past 7 pm.
1
@David_Kan That $1million is enough for some person whose life choice is living simply for a lifetime retirement.
1
@SVSky Great during that time. I own one in a 1GHz Athlon Self assembled PC.
1
We keep on having land reforms from different administrations but its still the same outlook. The big lands are still owned by a 40 dynasties!
1
Lika a Dad joke?
1
Is this a Wafer fab mfg training material property of TSMC????
1
As I said before no need to be perfect to say DRAM as Dee-ram. Im okay both ways.
1
😁
