  10.  @89bazoly  lucky you. Here in Canada they used to go as fast as they wanted. Often I look at my rearview mirror there is a tractor trailer riding on my ass and I was already going 120km. They sometimes go 150km when there is no police. Only a few years ago they mandated putting speed limiters in the trucks to 110km. But occasionally you still still encounter illegally modified ones that go over that limit.

  13. Sinophobia in Europe, plus they are conscious about Chinese invading one of their most important industries - auto. In markets that BYD is doing well - Australia, NZ and Asia, there is no significant grassroot auto industry.

  14.  @Erikkrols  Maybe you can eek out a couple more years. But in theory liquid battery chemistry has an expiry date. The capacity does not diminish linearly, it accelerates, it's not going to take another 10 years to go from 90-80%. it'll probaby take 1 - 2, then once it's under 80% it'll fall off the cliff or suddenly fail completely. Some military trucks are still in service from 50 years ago. No smart electronics or computers, just pure mechincal trucks. EVs will never be able to last that long.

  16. If you limit fossil fuel industry in places like Australia and Canada, where at least they are trying to do it in a responsible and less environmentally damaging way, you will push production into Middle East and Russia, where far worse emission and pollution will be generated.

  18. BYD's PHEV reliability problem is probably growing pain because they are relatively newer than BYD's BEVs. I hope it's temporary, as PHEV is far more pratical than BEV and still cuts down 95%+ of emission. It's also more sustainable once these growing pains have been resolved, which I'm confident BYDs will be able to.

  19. The problem is that AI only has vision it doesn't feel human under the car. It has no sense of hearing, balance or bump under the car. The current state of AI is not yet practical enough

  20. There are 3 major crash test agencies, IIHS, Euro NCAP, and NFTA. Each one does a little differently. For example, BMW X5 received top safety rating from IIHS, but only 4 stars from NFTA. When I was deciding on purchasing a PHEV SUV, that was the reason I decided to go with Volvo XC90 over BMW X5. Volvo not only receive 5 stars from all crash tests, but they go above and beyond with their own tests by crashing an XC90 every month from different angles and road conditions to mimick real life accidents to check and improve its safety. No other car companies are as deligent on safety as Volvo.

  24. Wind turbine blades need to be replaced every 10 years and currently cannot be recycled. Plus the noise generated for the nearby residents is unbearable.

  30. EV fire risk is a big one. We should not be in denial about it. EV fires are statistically less frequent than ICE car fires, but its intensity and temperature is so much that it poses more danger to the surrounding. I understand that fire can start after a collision or accident for both EVs and ICE, but I'd like to know the stats on parked vehicle fires. How often do ICE car spontaneously burst into flames in a crowded car park?

  32.  @nguyep4  There are some anecdotal evidence that Teslas coming out of Giga Shanghai has better fit and finish and less panel gaps than the America made. You are right that integrity and morals are important in the final finished product. No amount of quality control is enough to replace individual worker's dedication and attention to details. We all have heard that Japan made Toyotas are superior to America made, and German made BMWs and Audis are better than South African BMWs and Mexican Audis. These stories are true. East Asians take their jobs just a little more seriously than North Americans on average. The unions in the US have made many workers jaded, and entitled.

I never said I don't know how to operate a Tesla, I'm saying it's less robust and intuitive because you have to use your eyes to look at touch screen to touch the correct spot. That takes attention away from driving, and is dangerous, and longer reaction delays. With physical controls, once you are familiar with the position, you can just reach down with your hand and push, pull, twist or whatever, you don't need to look, you can feel it with your hand. Tesla removed physical controls in favour of touch screen because they want to cut cost, not to benefit consumers.
