  3. Agree, Russian imperialism goes a long way back. NATO wasn't formed till 1949, and then to check Stalin's expansion into areas never controlled by the Tsars.

Europe treated Russia as a strategic partner, and invested heavily in the Russian economy, bringing hundreds of thousands of well-paid jobs. Unfortunately, you have a government stuck in 1942.

  18. Let's hope he's bold enough to enter a customs union. Its a logical move to deal with the border issue, it enriches Britain, and it reflects the public mood. Hard brexit was always the choice of a minority of voters.

  26. Well; even saying "the west" is buying Putin's propaganda. We use it to identify countries with western institutions, which included Russia till recently. Putin wants us to understand it as some conspiratorial cabal of English speaking nations, with a few friends, bent on destroying Russia, family life, and Christianity.
