In the 56 years since then, there have been no rivers of blood, and attention has shifted from crude colour prejudice to a more nuanced interplay of ethnic origin, financial status and religious affiliation. It examines the underlying prejudices that stem from over two hundred years of racial bias, often openly incorporated into law, and more recently, carefully hidden in apparently anodyne legislation. Hence the banning of a book called The Life of Rosa Parks, because that is not the sort of thing that some of us (middle class, white folks) want our kids to know about.

The tabloid frenzy surrounding the Duke of York is based on allegations of sex with a "minor". Problem is that the "minor" was 17 at the time, and so under the "sensible laws" of the United Kingdom, there would be no case to answer. In Florida, however, a minor is anyone under the age of 18. So while sex with a 17 year old is legal both the UK and in the contiguous states of Georgia and Alabama, it is illegal in Florida. Confusing, isn't it? One final point, if you insist on dragging out the rotting corpse of the former DJ, at least try to get his name right. It was "Savile" - with ONE "L".

His "warnings" from the infamous "rivers of blood" speech were made in 1968 and have no relevance to the multicultural society that has developed in the last 56 years. If anything, his predictions have been shown to be nothing more than alarmist fantasy.
