Kudos to Rogan for being honest about weight cutting.

"If you want to be a clear thinker, you cannot pay attention to politics. It will destroy your ability to think." -N. Ravikant Greatest words ever spoken on the internet.

@extreme__relaxation Right, but this is the slow-motion version of Rome so people won't even notice until it's over.
7
So funny when they're talking about marriage and Joe keeps ramping up the sarcasm but Bill keeps not getting it.
6
I heard more groans of hopelessness, ugh.
6
Perhaps, but keep in mind Naval's very much a "New World Man" (insert song lyrics here). He's just young enough to apply all the wisdom incorrectly and make a mess. I like the guy, to be sure, but he's right on that line of arrogance...flirting with disaster.
6
@nogoprohero7164 He's attempting to combine eastern and western ideas in a novel way, which is admirable. However... It seems to me like Ravikant is a little too enamored with capitalism and the "game A" West. He's also admitted to being impatient and somewhat obsessive. And he has this bizarre notion that everyone can have the "good life." It all translates into an unstable recipe, sure to produce internal dissonance at some point. I'd rather have a grounded leftist like Yuval Harari mentoring the youth than a shaky right-winger like Ravikant. And I say that as a conservative thinker. Thanks for making me flesh this out.

Big amen

@loganmcgraw9317 They're both kind of big kids, but in different ways. I have more respect for Kiedis but what would the world/internet be without Joe Rogan?
3
I was going to say, MM is the wise uncle.
3
@anonymoustruth5950 Where did you meet Daniel?
3
Szilárd Maku Everyone can have a decent existence, but he literally says that everyone can be RICH. While I don't believe in "zero sum" thinking, no way in hell can everyone in the world be rich (by the standard that's in place).
3
@nancybatch7007 He's still a Hollywood star, and no less impressive.
3
@Melted Synapse Completely disagree.
3
He also says you have to apply some effort. The point is that all we can ever really have is equal opportunity. He never says everyone will eventually make the same amount of money. But I do agree that his logic is slightly circular. My biggest argument is that a person might be quite talented but their particular talent just isn't in demand during their lifetime. Or people don't recognize someone's contribution until after they're gone (or at least the magnitude of that contribution). So while I believe Ravikant is an honest, straight-shooter -- and generally on point -- I would agree with you that he maybe hasn't taken everything into account. But keep in mind, it's never going to be a perfect system.

This is where I disagree with Naval. I believe most of our suffering stems from not knowing what we really want. Watch the movie Swimming With Sharks if you doubt me. And what we DO want...we don't want bad enough!
2
@michaflak1370 No, happiness is dumb because it doesn't carry meaning. What we want is meaning, even if it means putting ourselves on the front lines of a bloody war. We want to feel alive and have meaning. You can't stop desire.
2
Stretch it to at least 121:15.
2
@bradleyjohnson6107 So we already have too much of everything and Sanders is here to give us more. Great thinking.
2
@bradleyjohnson6107 I just wanted to textually downvote you. If Bernie's the best answer we've got, we're in big trouble.
2
No, he's right. Genocide's still the biggest deal. But this isn't far off.
2
Not many people could get away with telling the audience to turn off JRE and think for themselves. And right to Rogan's face! I don't have a point, I just love his gall.
2
Proving that sleep isn't the "most" important.
2
At some point we're talking about altering personalities just to create a more peaceful world. A world without any edge or gall.
2
All theories are still just a theory.
2
It's a rare case of someone who never really grew up but is still admirable. I like the stache...who does he have to impress at this point?
2
@jonturtle590 I hit that point in the video right as I was reading your reply.
2
This made me want to watch the movie Never Cry Wolf. And then go live it.
2
@DennisJosephin Yup, and that's the whole problem. Naval preaches that line of thought half the time and the other half he acts like money is the shit. You can't serve two masters.
2
Well, pride is pretty damn important to the health of a community.
2
I can't believe Joe let Kiedis name marijuana as a gateway drug. Wild.
2
The reason I hate this type of comment is because Joe had as much interesting material to add about insects as Frank did. I mean, almost.
2
@Melted Synapse I think he means "conscious" and proactive coping.
2
@DeltiBecker Which traits, for example?
1
@DeltiBecker Well, hardly any of that qualifies as biological heritable traits. Even mental capacity isn't set in stone. I was pretty dumb as a child.
1
@DeltiBecker The things you're saying are all the more reason to give every child specialized attention. I guess I'm confused as to why you made the original comment?
1
@DeltiBecker I would just say that IQ isn't everything. You might want to look into Nassim Taleb's thoughts on the subject. There are also different definitions of success. The point here is that we should facilitate each child to develop naturally, so that they might reach their full potential...whatever that may be.
1
@DeltiBecker You brought the pessimism, I'm just not sure why.
1
@DeltiBecker So then that holds some significance for you?
1
@DeltiBecker I believe you're in the minority, and that what you're talking about is irrelevant here.
1
Only because we let them. We made them strong and then let them strong-arm us.
1
16:08 "I think if you really have nothing going on, everything becomes about politics." Perfectly put.
1
He trips over himself at one point when he talks about the folly of trying to solve external problems to achieve inner peace. He says, "Why are you trying to make money? To solve all your money problems," clearly stating that that's the wrong way to go about it. This from a finance guru...oops.
1
Brandon Poindexter Trump was miserable for the U.S., which I say as a conservative.
1
Great shout out to Bari Weiss
1
1:30:41 Bad Joe....completely contradicting himself in a single breath. 1:36:40 Good Joe....pulling a brilliant insight out of thin air.
1
2:10:36 One of the best JRE segments ever. If you only have 5 spare minutes, start here. "Everybody pays. You either pay now or you pay with regret." Everybody pays.
1
"...because we need to make everything SAFE."
1
I vote this guy the new U.S. Minister of Immigration.
1
1:37:02 The most radical words you will ever hear on any podcast. "I think there's a place..."
