In more recent times, the Young Turks invented the modern genocide, some of it accomplished in their territory of Palestine. During World War I, the Ottoman Empire, which controlled Palestine at the time, implemented various policies targeting Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek populations within its borders, resulting in mass killings and forced deportations. These actions are recognized as genocide by many historians and scholars.
