  13.  @Daniper1  Yes, I tell people here in America Israel has a mostly secular education system and laws which protect religious freedom, although there are special laws which protect Jews right of return, along with certain responsibilities' to serve, but it is still the only liberal democracy in the region. However, the story is not told well here, and even some American Jews sometimes don't believe me.

In either case, not a priority for me in this struggle, which is born from the European goal of nation/state building and the end of the Ottoman Empire in WW1. Both the Jews and Arabs fought with the British for the land. Only the Arabs did not want to share. They are racists, and use religion as a secondary weapon, something we Jews often use, too. In any case, the struggle to me is primarily political. When Arafat said in 1999/2000 that Solomon's Temple was a Zionist Fantasy, that was not a religious statement, but one of politics.

Here in America it was the other way around, first were the Sephardi who looked down on the Germans and Hungarian Jews, then when the Russian and Polish Jews arrived the others were both horrified, then, in the 1970s, when former Soviet Jews arrived it happened again. It's human, but we didn't kill each other over it.

  26. Even in the Americas, a group like the Aztecs are not "indigenous" to what is now Mexico. Their origin story, Aztlan, has them coming from the north to take the land, which they did, from another group, the Tlaxcala, who still hate the "Mexica " Aztecs. If ever you are in the region near the Yucatan, careful not to call someone there a "Mexican", they won't like it.

As a mental health professional, what do you think about his "attachment" to his mother and her actual experience as a Holocaust Survivor? I want to add, as an American familiar with Canadian history, his statement that Canadians are unaware of the Residential School abuses is incorrect, it's taught in school, and popular movies and documentaries have been made about the abuse. My impression is that something connected to his mother is motivating his flight from reality.
