Independent Czechoslovakia from 1919 till 1939 was doing fine. Only after falling into the Soviet sphere of interest it started to decline on all levels. Even more striking is the example of Eastern Germany. It was the richest part of Germany before the war and it turned into a real hell hole.

  34. I don't understand how somebody intelligent can think that Russia is removing chips from washing machines to use them in rockets. 1. Removing thise chips from the washing machine PCBs would be extremely difficult, expensive and time consuming 2. Chips in the washing machines are of the lowest grade. They don't have enough computing power to guide rockets 3. The lower performance chips are manufactured in many countries including China. Russia can simply buy them on international / black market. 4.There are are there much more suitable civilian gadgets that can be converted into military tech. Mobile phones, smartwatches, Gaming consoles, computers, graphic cards. Size of an army in terms of manpower or weaponry does not tell anything about ability to fight. Russia has the second biggest army in the world, but its performance is quite poor. It also stands against much bigger coalition of countries.
