  8. Let's be honest, Starmer was at least right when he said that all those Tory MPs who've resigned have no integrity. They stood by him through his handling of covid and are complicit in the crony contracts for PPE that never delivered. He's broken all kinds of rules with his approach to the Ireland/Brexit problem, including the deal he set up and they backed him on that. They're just doing it for their careers. Jonathon Pie has a very concise take on what it's all about.

When one person is saying "we need to do something" and then a religious person says "yes, something should be done but don't YOU do anything, just have patience, god will take care of it"... that's different. And that's the exchange that took place at the start of this thread. People want to believe in an idea of god and take comfort in that? Fine. But don't use that faith to urge complacency in others, because there's stuff we NEED to get done.

This is an issue because small minded idiots have, for centuries, tried to use religion and faux morality to condemn and even attack gay people.

  16. Something my sister pointed out to me... the phrase "toxic masculinity" gets misused by writers so damn much and it sounds like an attack on men. A way of pointing at them and saying "you, you're the problem". But the actual full phrase is something like "the toxic expectations and pressures of masculinity on men"... and it's one of those things that really changes the whole meaning, it's actually something men are a victim of, it's about helping free men from these angry, repressed pigeonholes that we get put in.

You can claim to be this grand, charitable saintly figure who goes out of their way to adopt or donate or otherwise help people in need. And you don't have to do any of it. You're arguing for women to be forced to go through a horrendous and traumatic experience and it's easy, 'cos all you have to do is claim to be a paragon of virtue. But you don't actually have to do any of it. Your argument, the actions and qualities you claim to have, they're always exactly what you need to counter whatever's just been levelled at you. Your argument doesn't open with how you've adopted children out of those situations or a very vague and lazy figure that supposedly comes out of your salary to support charities. You'd think those factors would sit at the very foundation of your argument. Instead, they come up only when challenged. Because it's all lies, isn't it. You're only here to "win" arguments so you'll say whatever you need in order to feel like that's the case. But you're too desperate and that makes you obvious.
