Adam, I think you have made some valid talking points to open the discussion. For a long time, most US 'mericans were isolated from the rest of the world and the cultural and linguistic influence from elsewhere did not percolate. However, one could argue that cultural imperialism bastardized the pronunciation of country names, foods, and linguistics and that it is disrespectful to not pronounce things as they are in the native languages. La France has the Académie Française which is very proscriptive about their language, and they are maniacs about acronyms so as to not run afoul of the authorities. More people are being exposed to and communicate with people from all over the world, and we can and should do more to respect their culture and relish the richness they bring to our lives. If US people were not so monolingual, I don't think this topic would have arisen, and therein lies the rub.

@jayteegamble I don't understand your vitriol for basically laying out a rational argument. If you have a history with a dish, you do you. But for those new to it, they should be educated about it and the context of it.
