  25. He was charismatic. Modi is good in it's own way and that's what India reads right now but Nehru did a lot of right things in his time. Nehru's unchallenged mandate allowed him to lay the foundations of Nation Building. Without that, India wouldn't have survived the separatism and insurgencies it faced in 1960s. Both Pakistan and Bangladesh, much smaller nations than India and way less diverse fell for military dictatorships. Pakistanis are still confused with their identities. Those are basic problems. Without solving those we couldn't have thought of building infra. Same goes for Indira. Infact, Indira was very similar to Modi in many ways.

  45. This was always the situation in India. Things are actually much better now. It's just that social media is helping get such videos out to the public where as before one might find this mentioned in the obscure part of a local newspaper. These are governance issues which can't be controlled with under-funded police department AND with Police Reforms. Retired IPS officers and committees formed by the government have been advocating for it for quiet sometime. But I can bet you, whenever that reform comes, irrespective of who is in power, there will be protests and misinformation will be spread by the opposition to stop it from happening just like it was done in case of Farm Bills.
