  20. jlhabitan50 If you are referring to Hawaii and Alaska, the statement is incorrect . Those 2 were never in the colonial status of “Unincorporated territory”. Alaska was purchased from Russia and immediately “incorporated” into the US. Hawaii we did a coup and also “incorporated “ the islands. In the Constitution , “incorporated “ means that path to statehood is guaranteed . Unincorporated means that Congress decides, if ever, the outcome. This happened because of the Phillippines. As a US colony, Congress started discussing statehood. But obviously, having a brown people State was inconceivable and they created the term “Unincorporated territory” to differentiate those that would never become part of the Union. This was decided by the Supreme Court in 1903....The Insular Cases.
