But under the current colonial status, they have one Commissioner in the House with zero votes and zero influence. So I guess she is representing the US citizens in PR properly by being invisible to Congress.

Per US Constitution, only requires simple majority in House and Senate, and could be done anytime. As if it’s unjust or not, that irrelevant to the Constitution. But Neil Gorsuch did write an opinion last week where he said that he is willing to throw away the 1901 SCOTUS ruling that created this entire mess with the US colonies. There is hope

  8. Hawaii is a State because before 1898, every Territory conquered by the US was automatically designated as “Incorporated Territory of the US”. This designation GUARANTEED Statehood. In 1901 (Insular Cases), Congress and SCOTUS ruled that the newly acquired Territories from Spain, would NOT be Incorporated, to deny 100% a path to Statehood. The new designation created was “Unincorporated Territory of the US”. This ruling is the law of the Land today, and has never been challenged. Justice Roberts mentioned a few months ago that he is willing to completely overturn that 1901 ruling. But nobody has brought it up to SCOTUS.

  9. I'm against the tactics of vulture funds, but the students are clueless here. The constitution dictates that bonds are paid first. There is no way around it. The University has its own financial scandals with bogus student grants and overpaid admin staff. They can get funding from there. The cost of the education is subsidized and it has kept an unrealistic price on education. I've had relatives attend these schools and they all had Pell Grants, which meant college was free, and at the end of each semester, they cashed almost 100% of the grant for their pockets.

Now...there is plenty of proof of UK meddling in the US election....but that one doesn't get too much attention. I know the Mueller case was for russiagate....but my point is that instead of wasting 2 years on that....it could've been easier to go after him for real reasons.

To Cambridge Analytica you can also add the ex-spy, also from the UK, that put together the dossier. Domestically.....the DNC fiasco in the primaries, and later the grave mistake of ignoring the trust belt during the presidential.....guaranteed a win for Trump.

  29. Sadly in this case, publicly released documents showed that covid came out of the lab, and research funded by NIH. There is also Congressional testimony about it. All recorded in the National Archives for posterity.

  36.  @greymann  The US did impose US citizenship on PR in 1917. Then in 1940 extended Birthright Citizenship to PR. So people in PR are not able to reject US citizenship. It is also impossible for people in PR to renounce US citizenship for PuertoRican citizenship, because it doesn’t exist.

But PR, Guam, USVI, American Samosa, Mariana Islands fall under the 1901 ruling of being permanent Colonies (Unincorporated Territory)

  43.  @greymann  When the movement for independence was active in PR, The US banned, Spanish, implemented a Gag Order, banned all displays of the PR flag, massacred dozens of people, incarcerated and tortured many more. These actions completely eliminated any further moves from the folks on the Island.
