If you make people take a test before getting the gun... then they can ban guns without actually banning guns. Just make the "sanity check" almost impossible to pass. My girlfriend tried to join my country's equivalent of the FBI and she failed selection in the psychological evaluation. The problem? The standards are so strict that they considered that she was "not trusting enough". You'd think they want investigators who don't believe suspects testimonies and verify the facts, right? Either way, imagine they just put those standards on the sanity check. Oh, you don't trust the government? You're crazy, no gun. Oh, you trust the government too much? That's crazy, no gun. Do you trust random people? No? That's crazy, you're paranoid. Oh, you trust them? That's naive, you're crazy.

  20.  @basti080891  "Many" European countries is misleading because there's also European countries where suppressors are 100% prohibited, places where there's ammo limits and even powder/primer limits, places where although semi-auto "military style" weapons are technically legal they might require a special sport shooting license and prices can be 50% to 100% higher than they are in the US. Let's not mention all the intricate complications stemming from different rules on whether or not you can shoot in private property, which kinds of weapons you're prohibited from shooting outside of approved ranges and even the kinds of ranges you're able to use. In my country you can't do IPSC shooting until you progress through 3 different licenses, which requires a mandatory 4 year period for you to get the first two. Until then you can only do slow fire without moving on traditional shooting lanes. And to even get the first license that allows you to train shitty static fire you need to join the shooting club which means the state can effectively restrict gun rights simply because the people at your local gun club can not like you, or even discriminate against you on the basis or race, gender, sexuality, whatever the fuck.

  25.  @Sman7290  The fouling is an issue but not the main problem. When the powder was changed, it still had to meet muzzle velocity specs. So they loaded the cartridges pretty "hot" for the same velocity achieved with IMR powder. For whatever reason, port pressure was not a consideration on the specs. So the overcharged ammo had excessive port pressure, which caused rifles to not only attempt an extraction while the case was still pressed against the chamber, but also caused excessive bolt velocity. Both situations could be a source of jams, especially if the chamber was pitted due to lack of chroming and the cartridge walls were gripping the rough surface. The powder was not clean burning. But the AR can handle dirty ammo to some extent. This ammo was completely overdriving the system. If I'm not mistaken the issue was calcium deposits from the additives fouling the inside of the gas block but it would take a lot of firing for you to choke the system. The hot ammo issue could cause you a headache on the first trigger pull if you were unlucky. And that was the main problem.

If I'm not mistaken they had H&K manufacture a semi-auto only variant for them so they could have a carbine, they used to have L85s and with the terror attacks that happened with the London bombings in the 2000s they have G36s, when the ISIS attacks started in the 2010s they also got ARs and MP7s. I went to London once, I was stuck outside my inn for like an hour because the police cordoned off the entire street to arrest someone, and they all had MP5s. So no, they get to blame the gear when they have the Crown's privilege to buy Gucci hardware.

If anything skyscrapers are limited to cities and the environment is totally hostile to most non-humans apart from rodents and whatnot, and as evidenced by housing costs in cities the regulations in place prevent more and more buildings being toppled and replaced by taller ones. Meanwhile wind farms provide inconsistent energy with low KWh per area taken that require storage to meet the grid demand, and we have to go out of our way to invade. We already destroy enough nature with our need for farm land. A man's gotta eat. We don't gotta have wind energy to survive.

NATO countries bought the P90 decades ago and more countries kept buying MP7s for spec ops, rear echelon units and even police forces so NATO just decided to standardize both since they're already in inventory.

The issue is that the difference between Cali and Texas is that in Cali you can't carry unless you're well connected, and there's silly restrictions regarding the handgun roster and the assault weapons legislation but you don't need a reason to own a gun, you don't need to get an appointment with a doctor, you don't need to name a couple people to be references to your good conduct, etc. You can just get a gun. Despite how bad California is, at least there's a sliver of gun rights. In Europe? It's a privilege.
