  3. I lived in Guangzhou. After one year I understood that this is no way how people should live. I moved back after 18 months. China has so much beauty, the land and the people. But the old tails called traditions, and even more so the old stinky fish called CCP are spoiling everything. I believe it would take more than one generation to repair what was done there.

  4. When my family lived in China, my son was twice in a local hospital. The methods used were simple, the facilities simple, the doctor somewhat unfriendly. However, both times the treatment was absolutely appropriate. That was around 2014/2015. The thing I did hate was that Chinese people think they can interrupt a consultation at any time, pop into an ongoing surgery every second to ask insignificant questions, and that virtually everyone expects preferential attention, probably because they paid a bribe.

  9. When I lived in China there was a young guy at my workplace, mid 20s. He went to an Ikea store and bought a simple one-board wall shelve. After about 1.5 h he finally finished assembling it, and then he said to me proudly: I didn't even know I could assemble that". How did you guys endure that for sooo long?

  10. I have met couples who paid hefty fines. The top was one women in Guangzhou who admitted she paid more than USD 100,000 to have her third child, plus the undertaking to get sterilized. I have met women who were second and third wives to rich men, with the only task to have a child for him. These kids have only a part-time father. I have met families with children that were not registered. These children can not go to school, had no access to any kind of support. There must be millions of hidden children in China. One of these families lived in my neighbourhood. They have 1 kid officially and 3 more unofficial, which were shifted regularly in between the parents and the 2 different grandparents.

In the 18 months that I lived in an upper middle-class condo WITH security, electronic pass and cameras all around the compound, in my and the two neighbouring blocks: - two times people were convicted who planned to break into flats - one time someone fell from the water drain pipe from the 5th level that he tried to climb up in order to break into a flat, this person died on the spot - one time someone was convicted who tried to make children from the condo's playground follow him - one time when I was coming back from work someone was fiddling at my front door lock, when I stepped out of the lift he run away via stair case. That was just near me. The security was very careful incidences like that were not made known to the condo public. You could only know if you were a neighbour. If you asked them nobody ever knew anything. While it does seem that violent crime is relatively lower compared to many other countries, stealing, robbing, scamming, cheating is rampant in China. The police often does not really care about certain crime, and that is the first step many criminal acts do not get reported and do not appear in statistics.

  15. I concur with every single point. It's 100 % accurate. Allow me to add a point you only briefly hit on. The crime is lower in China as compared to other Asian countries. But we shall keep in mind that a certain type of crime often remains unreported, and then uncounted for. Pick-pocketing, serious scamming incidents, small theft, vastly overcharging for goods or services are such examples. Hardly anyone would go to the police for it, and criminals calculate with this fact. As a foreigner your chances for recovery of the damages are close to null anyway, even in cases where the culprit is known. But violent crime is not a big problem in China, as it is for example in South Africa.

  16. The right temperature for the baby simply is the temperature you feel well with. That is what you both have given to your child. Washing is a matter of hygiene. My wife was fit 3 days after childbirth and did not need anything special. She's Singapore Chinese. Her relatives and friends also tried to talk her into all this traditions. Our upstairs neighbour was told to eat 13 eggs per day and filled up to the brim with Ginger soup. Sometimes we heard her crying. After the month she came out she looked sick.Happy baby.

  17. I was there for work from 2014 to 2015, saw, learned, and went back to Singapore. Singapore is tiny, and many people as narrow-minded as the country is small. I can hardly call the government democratic as how we mean a democracy to be. But: I can live with dignity, and in peace along with the locals and people from many other countries! I did learn that this is a privilege, and it is not the norm in the world.

  20. I've got similar experiences. The Asian in-laws can be quite . . . lets say hurtful. Especially the mother in-law can drive you to insanity. I honestly had moments I doubted my decision was the right one.

See here, he instantly shuts off when she hints him to change subject. Obviously she's clever, and I see from older videos if asked she is also much more straightforward than the average Chinese woman. I like that.

  22. It is the same as with the "prosperous China". These are a handful of brightly lit1.tier cities only. 50 km outside sometimes you believe you are somewhere else in the galaxy. Many millions live still at a standard lower than parts of Africa.

  24. A while back I saw an amazing interview with an American of Chinese origin. He re-opened a factory that was bankrupted by their incapable management. Long story, not important here. Someone asked him: Would you be ready to help the people around this area here, employ local people and source your materials locally? Not go outside and relocate departments to China? He said, not by word but by meaning: "Listen, first and foremost you have to understand I am Chinese, and I always will be. If there is something that I can do that helps my country, I will do it without hesitation." This is the situation, these are the people that you are believing you integrated well. I am grateful to that man. For once someone spoke the truth.

  28. I was in the same honeymoon when I came to Japan the first time. Woa Woa, ... so clean, so polite, so cultured, ... In Japan the problems are not pollution, dirt, or noise. The issues are not people defecating outside, or scams, or incapable drivers. This: - A very very strong bond with old traditions and hierarchies - Japan is one of the worst places on earth to be a woman. To see this you'd have to be longer there.

The new Chinese aircraft carrier is a refined and improved version of the one China bought 2. hand. All industrial machines are copies from German, Italian or Japan engineering. Not this generation, Mr. Copy, and not even your child. You won't throw sand into my eyes, I've lived in Guangzhou and travelled all over China for work.

  32. The thing is, most of the points Matt mentioned are based on facts. It is just they don't necessarily apply universally and everywhere. But nevertheless each of the points has a true kernel. I.e. the no. of homeless is extremely high, the Oxicontin drug problem is a fact, and that schools are funded by the level of tax money raised in that area is causing a wide gap in education quality.

  34. In Germany we neither see pregnancy as a sickness, nor delivering a baby. And that is why, Arno. If anywhere in the world you need to stay in a hospital, then you may learn quickly how to appreciate the European standard. In most Euro countries is so much better as compared to the vastly costlier US system, too. Albeit I have to say that I did not find it half as bad in China as it is described here in the video. I know only two hospitals outside of Guangzhou. They were not as nice or luxerious, but I can't complain about the procedures. The absence of privacy and being practically handled as an incapicated person are really bad, though. These people do not know dignity as we know it.

Because that's what you people do whenever you don't know anything anymore to say. I have been working in Chinese R&D labs, for example to copy the copy of the 3. generation copy of a cake product. The original is a Korean product, white filling, spounge cake and then chocolate around, red colour packaging - but a copy of a copy of that. You will probably know that cake, it's sold everywhere. Every copy a little bit cheaper, a little bit worse, a little bit more shxt. Yea, thank you for the experience, but I went home. I could have shut my mouth and just do what I am expected to do, nothing easier than that. But I have never ever - not even a single time! - been asked to work on a new or inventive product. Do your shxt yourself, that is not why I learned my job for many years. That is the real China. And now go back scratching your own balls again. You love that.

  48. Chinese and spreading a bioweapon, that to me is internet BS. But Chinese can be incredible careless. And greedy. I know they did experiments with bats in that biolab. What for example, if somebody of the lab staff carried a few remainders downtown and sold it to someone at the wet market? They do have a history of incident related to bats. Though I do not believe we would ever see something in the news about such an accident. The wet market is the more convenient story.

  50. Here is my take, unasked: They are not destroying Hing Kongs freedom. Hong Kong is in the process of being destroyed. There will be a mega-city reaching from Guangzhou to Shenzhen, and HK will be a satellite of that mega-city. (BTW. Hong Kong is not the best place to live anyways if you don't have much money, it's schxxse.)
