  8. When was that? The earlier Kuaomingtan regime was not interested in pursuing this. The later authoritarian regime was fiercely opposed to it. And the DPP is opposed to it for at least as long as the people themselves are opposed to it. Many Taiwanese would not mind keeping the status quo, not because they don't want an independent Taiwan, but for the sake of peace with China. However, after Hong Kong, if it comes worse Taiwan would not be a relatively easy prey as Hong Kong was.

  14.  @Moondancemilly  Don't talk nonsense. Finland is one of the most pleasant to live countries in the world (aside from the cold), may be THE most pleasant. The Finish people are very well-behaved and all of them enjoyed quality education. Their behaviour and culture is 100 % based on European values. Most are very relaxed people, it is difficult to make a Finnish person angry. Despite being European, they still have a strong national identity. Try to conquer Finland, and you will learn what that means. For such a small country they achieved a lot, for example in sport, education and standard of living. They are the proof that you can connect well with other countries, be integrated, and still be a person of your country. And BTW I consider the president Mr. Niinisto as one of the best politicians in Europe.

Why should the Taiwan government cancel a trade agreement that has been in place since several years? Is anybody in Taiwan against trade with China? I think nobody in the world actually is, not even your virtual main enemy, the US. To my opinion, this report sheds lights on both sides. On one side the intention of the KMT to get back into power. On the other side how important that visit might be for China. No more, no less.
