  17. The Acela could do 150MPH. The main issue isn't the track, it's the at-grade crossings. Those seriously limit the speed of the train. In fact the Acela gets up to it's maximum speed in parts of MA and all of RI.

  33. Oil and gasoline prices have been manipulated hard since the 1970's. Blame speculation (oil should NOT be traded on the speculative market!), the constriction of refining capability, and just the general boorishness of the oil companies about spills (BP), and you can see that we need to stop them in their tracks. I estimate if this continues we will see gasoline prices in the $6 to $8 per gallon range by July 2011.
