At least the driver put on his hazard lights. Safety first!

It is possible to walk between cars on the Red Line. I've seen the crazy people on it do it, although you're not supposed to as you are outside for small space between cars. The main problem is Metro does not kick the homeless off when the line reaches either North Hollywood or Downtown. They keep riding it back and forth. Isn't the train supposed to be used for public transportation and not a rolling homeless shelter? There should be at least two Metro police always stationed inside each station. One near the entrance and one on the platform. If there are transients hanging around inside, they should immediately be removed. Again, train stations are not homeless shelters.

What was the driver thinking? The crossing gate was just down for decoration?

It doesn't matter if the deputy was responding to a call or not. He made an unsafe u-turn. If it was a business district, u-turns are not allowed.

I feel this shouldn't have happened from the start. What about zoning restrictions and building codes? I'm willing to bet that area/property is not zoned for multiple units/apartments, and even it is was, jamming in 20 beat up RVs isn't in compliance with building, safety, fire, sanitation codes and the like. It's like if I decided to rent out my house, but not to one family, but a dozen.

Close to landing. The inside air pressure was probably about equal to the outside pressure. He would have never been able to get the door open at a higher altitude.

Some experts are saying what the hull was made of on the Titan probably failed. After so many cycles of going down and up in the ocean, at up to 400 atmospheres, weaknesses and microscopic cracks developed. If it imploded from failure at such a deep point in the dive, the crew probably died within seconds.

WiFi calling didn't work either. I don't know what AT&T is talking about. Dialing into my cell number from a landline got nothing this morning, so why would you get anything dialing out using WiFi? Whatever in the network that was down, affected everything, including WiFi calling.
31
Inside job. You're not going to have perpetrators breaking into a building like that without first knowing what's inside, where the safes are, combinations and access to them, and so on. The armored car company has to have had videos and sensors inside, unless the perpetrators knew in advance how to disable that. I also find it hard to believe there are not at least a couple employees inside 24/7, even on holidays.

It's easy to figure out how the suspect ended up behind the wheel of the patrol car: The suspect took it while the officer was away from the vehicle. Easy-peasy. Next question. Anyway, now the TV networks won't show the part when he jumped out, his body and head slamming against the pavement, a CHP officer pulling him from the street, blood in the street where he initially jumped/stopped moving, then they moved him again applying CPR.

We need the rain after several weeks of no rain. After years of drought, it will take plenty more of this to make up for it.

The image looks like something from a 1950's black and white television. I assume HD images are coming next.

Mind the gap. It looks like a large gap from the platform saved her. She's lucky she fell where nothing would run her over, crush or tear off parts of her body.

Saying that the streetcar system was losing money as one of the reasons for its demise makes little sense. What public transportation system makes money? All of them are subsidized by stuff like sales taxes, for the public benefit. In Los Angeles County, there's a two percent sales tax to support public transportation, and related stuff. That said, the streetcar network that started in the early 1900's was always doomed. The old technology, and slow speeds, would have killed it no matter what. The current Los Angeles County light rail and subway system isn't perfect, and isn't very extensive, but it will be around for quite a while. There's dedicated tax dollars that probably pay for 80% of it, so no need to worry about real estate developers not supporting it.

She keeps mentioning Google Maps. Google Maps is not Caltrans, and I wasn't aware Google Maps provides the most up-to-date road conditions. They have an argument about that 911 call the next day, which wasn't them, but not about ignoring "road closed" signs. "Road closed" doesn't mean a gate needs to be closed. Maybe the conditions were so bad nobody from Caltrans could safely make it to the gate to close it. Anyway, this isn't for me to decide.

I grew up in Southern California. The local ABC7 news becomes part of that. Dr. George, Jerry Dunphy, Christine Lund, John North, etc. Names that are always embedded in my brain.
12
There's no need to fear, Underdogs are here.

Politics, plus lousy decisions made since the 1960's.

Dig faster.

The month before (April 1974), as a 10th grader, I was watching the local TV news in L.A. (I think it was KABC) when they announced that Patty Hearst said on audiotape that she joined the SLA. My mother really followed the story. She comes home from work and asks me if there is more news on the kidnapping. I tell her that "Patty Hearst joined the SLA." She gets mad at me, telling me that's not funny, I should wash my mouth out with soap and that I'm a sick person. I didn't say a thing, but mom later apologized to me after she heard it on the news.

The guy must have been on something. The landlord should have called the police for vandalizing his property. Maybe the police left when the tenants called because there is no law against throwing your own stuff out of your apartment window.
9
I've seen them on the beach when I was a kid. Nothing new. New creatures don't just instantly evolve and appear in front of you.
9
@twylah9047 The report didn't say they're all here illegally. Do you know all these people? Anyway, that's a different issue.
9
Metrolink and ABC7 has got to tell train companies around the world about that new lightweight material they're using on their trains. 600 pound trains sure must be saving a lot of energy. With energy prices the way they are, this will make a big difference in energy consumption.

The city should just take the buildings from the developers and give it to another who will finish the project. I wonder, though, who much tagging, vandalism, damage and stuff taken has been done inside the buildings. I have a feeling it's a lot. The buildings might not even be salvageable.
8
If it was him vs several men, it's self defense. A guy loses his life over something that might get him $300. Oh well.
8
Nope. Look at Philadelphia and they had to replace the bridge. It will probably be less. You can go look back to the Northridge Earthquake and see how things will progressed quickly. If you know otherwise, post your research here.

The display in my car shows the speed limit, but sometimes it's off and sometimes it doesn't show anything. It would require GPS map updates in all new cars. I don't think it's workable. There are times you need to speed to get out of an unsafe situation. When the car software doesn't know the speed limit, is the default 1000 mph?
6
Agree. Expensive and not a common car. The DMV should be able to run the drivers licenses of people who own or lease such a car, and find a picture match to the pictures of him on these videos. That's assuming he's from California. He could be from another state and decided he doesn't like Californians. Who knows until they catch him.
6
He'll need his privacy. That's what concerns me when I win the big one. I'll probably can't fade into the crowd as a nobody anymore.
6
He also hit a light pole. The person in the dark car that he nearly hit, didn't want to be bothered. He just kept going.
6
Plenty of colleges in "the great state of Texas," and other states, have closed without giving students any warning. Just Google the subject. This is not only a California issue. If it is, show me the proof. I'll wait.
6
I wouldn't blame the guy in the dark car. The guy driving the blue car was exceeding the speed limit probably double. If he had a stop sign, the road looked clear to him when he started to cross. There's no way he could expect someone barreling down the road at 70.
5
A question: When I pass through customs at LAX (or any other airport), there are signs all over that no photography/cell phones are allowed. I thinking they'll cite me if I have mine out, so I put it away. Why is it that KABC can take this video all over the screening area and then air it on television with no problem? I'm wondering.
5
I would have taken out his car too. To take that guy out, it's worth the $500 deductible to get my car repaired.
5
@user-vs2fu7ni4w Maybe, but it's a long shot to prove the city is liable. The bridge is safe if you walk on the sidewalk or drive across it. It's not safe to trespass onto the arches and fall off. If he wants to prove liability, he'll probably need to prove the bridge is poorly designed and that somehow his son accidentally walked up the arches then fell.
5
It's probably some stupid YouTube or TikTok challenge. If the food was just at my doorstep and not directly delivered to me, I wouldn't touch it. Who knows what someone has done to the food. Obviously Uber Eats should know. Accounts aren't anonymous.
5
$300 - $1,000. That's a deal breaker for me by a mile. Amtrak has nothing to worry about with those fares. It would be nice when high-speed rail starts, but I probably won't be alive when that is finished.
5
Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe a Taco Bell has nobody inside when they're closed, but they only store tacos and a small amount of cash in the safe. This place has millions and millions, but nobody is there?
5
It could be key fobs. If the deputy is close enough to the vehicle the car might still go.
5
I guess the Mojave Desert is always in drought. It's bone dry there even in wet years.
4
All you armchair quarterbacks who are saying how the LAPD and the CHP screwed-up, they have job openings. Please apply so you can share your experience with the force.
4
I ordered MiraLAX to prep for a colonoscopy, and it was stolen from my doorstep. I wonder what the porch pirate planned to do with it. This stuff is a random crime of opportunity. The porch pirate doesn't know whether he is stealing something of value, or something that isn't remotely worth stealing.
4
Didn't you pay attention?
4
@lilypark8735 Are you then saying criminals in other states all obey the vehicle code as they're smashing other people's cars.
4
Folks: That's three paid days of sick year PER YEAR. If your employer only provides the minimum, you have three days to get over the coronavirus, and you better hope you don't need sick leave for anything else for the rest of the year. :/
4
There's a white car somewhere with a lot of right side damage.
4
@3hooks781 They've basically abandoned the place. Who knows if they're even paying any property taxes. Since the city seems to be the only entity trying to do anything (the owners have been non-responsive) why not take it away?
4
And equipment to break down such a wall can't exactly be quiet.
3
@daryllect6659 Yep. Maybe in some cities you could get away with it, but in L.A., I think the police get a commission on each ticket. :/
