The fact that Michael doesn't charge extra for failed inspection that has been repaired gets huge respect from me! That's a clear sign that failed inspection is about safety, not about making extra money.

@p4olo537 You could easily pull any US trailer with a Scania. Sure, the spacing between the trailer and the cabin is non-optimal and will result in higher air resistance but the only think that you must change is 12V connectors for the trailer and swap the air hose connectors.
17
@xWood4000 I'm a Finn and if he had called me, the first thing I would have said is "Did you follow the steps in the manual? Where did the actual behavior differ from the documentation?" There's probably some switch in the instrument cluster that allows to select if 12V or 24V system is in use.

24:45 That dashboard is really really high. Compared to Euro-trucks, this thing has really poor visibility to the ground near the front of the truck.
11
Have you guys considered the possibility of reading the owner's manual for this truck? I'd be pretty disappointed if the manual didn't explain how the different connectors are activated and it probably also lists the specs for all the threads for every connector, too. No need to go hunting for random adapters by trial and error if you know the thread specs from the manual.
9
Does this have air ride in the driver's seat, too?
8
23:10 Those lights appear to be pretty good. How would you compare the stock lighting to regular US trucks? Is this easier to drive in the middle of the night?
8
30:50 As an European, seeing those fuel tanks totally naked makes me think what will happen with eventual side-collision. I would expect lots of fuel spraying around and catching fire.
8
The whole video looked like half an hour F1 team. Constantly multiple people doing something to the truck to make it faster to complete.

You should grab some waterproof Nordic winter trecking shoes while you're in Finland. Then you have no problem with snow or wet slush, no matter where you walk in the world. Make sure to get big enough shoes so you can wiggle your toes inside the shoe because even a bit slightly too small shoe will be a lot colder in the winter.
5
@Staticcollective2019 You can build in the USA just fine as long as QA team is imported from Sweden. Then the only question is how many times they would redo some parts of the truck affecting the baseline in profits.
5
Didn't this brand new Scania come with phone support? If you cannot bother to read the manual, at least demonstrate the quality of the official phone support on video.
5
40:55 Pro tip: when your cabin air filter looks like that, you should be replacing it much more often instead of trying to blow the dust off.
5
8:20 "[The same windscreen] even if the cab is lower?" This is the low cab variant!
5
0:25 This clip looks like a new truck running around in outdoor museum. It remains to be seen if it would look similar with more "modern" US trucks.
5
23:50 Fun fact: -40 °C is same as -40 °F.

The 102 filter is not some Scania special, it just a standard small-size coffee filter. Another common filter size is 1x4 which is a bit bigger one and wouldn't fit nicely in this small coffee maker.

Here in Finland (and all Nordic countries if I've understood correctly) the yearly brake test on dyno is mandatory because of slippery winter conditions. Even a slight imbalance in trucks brakes could make it slide sideways during braking. And trucks are required to have official winter tyres during the winter with minimum thread depth of 5 mm (1/5 inch).
4
7:35 If it actually were just a week or two project to make the Scania driveable again with all these parts, surely you should do it by yourself and sell fully working truck. Just sell it as full set of parts because that's what's it really is right now.
4
12:00 You have to remember that these kids are speaking in foreign language...
4
The right way to extract the injector is to always use a slide hammer to pull it out.

@fabr5747 It appears that Bruce wants to primarily represent American trucker and Scania representative as second. If Scania wants to offer a product for similar group of truckers, this might be the correct way to proceed even if it seems really weird for those of us that think that you have to read the manual to not lose even a single well designed feature of a new truck simply because you never learned about it.

Your camera work has improved a lot! The video from inside the shop looks so much better than the previous trips. And also the mic work was pretty spot on except for the segment where you tried to have two people talking with just one mic (the clip with Misa).
3
@Battlenude US has weird legislation where the total length of truck + trailer is ignored and only the length of the trailer matters. As a result, nobody minds the length of the truck. Here in Europe, the total length is limited but you can distribute it as you wish. As a result, cabs get shorter and shorter but pretty high to maximize the available length for the cargo. In addition, US has really low total mass limits compared to Europe. As a result, you can use old school engine tech because any engine will do.
3
@NjoyMoney Gotta love 730 hp being called "low hp engine".
3
Scania is designed to be repairable on field so pretty much all the computers and sensors can be replaced on the field. Of course, getting the spare parts will be problematic for the initial buyers because the service network is non-existant unlike here in Europe.
3
11:45 I was surprised to find out that reverse lights weren't tested. Here in Europe, even passanger cars must have working reverse lights and even the register plate lights are checked in yearly inspection.
3
2:30 When you're in any Nordic country and the temperature is close to 0 °C during the winter, you definitely want shoes that are both warm and waterproof.
3
If you truly want to mess with the scania, go with custom paint job only. That's the way trucks are customized here in Finland anyway. For examples, look at the video from Finnish truck show.
3
Scania is about practicality. I'm fine with adding the deck plate as long as you also design a system to pop it open on the road. As a bonus, you could then also show the insides during the shows, too. Right now, it looks like adding and removing the deck requires 6 people which is totally opposite of anything practical.

31:15 I would love to see full video about the Volvo and compare high-end features between Volvo and Scania. Surely both have something that the other one is lacking but what are those features?
2
@MihkelKaselaid Here in Finland you can attend the inspection but there are secret blind testing where official government worker comes with a vehicle for inspection and the inspector is expected to find existing known defects in the vehicle. And as Bruce explained, both trucks and passanger cars go to brake-dyno and suspension shake test. Even if the brakes work in all wheels the vehicle will still fail if the difference between left and right side is too much (max allowed difference is 15% for actual brake power in kN if I remember correctly) or the brake power doesn't get close enough to factory spec.
2
15:00 A bit sad to see that old Scania doing rings in sand dust without an air filter...
2
Great testing! Now do it again with max load trailer!
2
Leave it to eurospec as much as possible so that's more honest "what you could get directly from the factory". The only thing they add here in Europe is extra high beams on the top to have insane amount of light to drive in the middle of the night. It appeared from your previous video that this already has pretty good lights from the factory to drive in the night.
2
As an European, that American Cabover looks like something we had in Europe around year 1990. I would have never guessed that one was from 2007!
2
22:22 I'm pretty sure this thing doesn't pass the emissions test anymore!
2
@mrm1885 I think Lapin Kulta beer is for tourists only. Finns seem to drink stuff like Karhu or Sandels if they want quality and Pirkka or Kotimaista if they want a cheap one.
2
Here in Finland, you know that you're driving your car too slow when the SCANIA logo fills your whole rear window.
2
You probably noticed already that focus was set incorrectly for the intro. I'd recommend manual focus or focus lock if the camera is on tripod and doesn't have good enough face follow focus automation. And white balance was also off, probably the white balance should have been around 3000K and it was set closer to 6000K in camera. The new mic setup was definitely a lot better than your older setup. Maybe apply some compression to the mic recording in post production to keep volume of your voice more stable for the listeners. The camera pixel noise level and audio noise level seemed good enough that you could fix both white balance and lack of audio compression still after the fact. However, you cannot fix focus after the fact so that definitely requires more effort in the future during the video shoot.

I think you would love the movie Sisu. When the main character finally says something, the movie is about to end.
2
As an European, this inspection seemed dangerously easy to pass. On the other hand I don't agree with all the stuff that is required here in Finland for our yearly inspection. If I were to decide, only lights, suspension and brakes would get tested. The suspension check is really strict here in Finland but I think it's good for road safety.
2
16:00 You were lucky that only fenders got damaged. If something is hanging from the trailer and it catches the rear tires instead, you could be having a blowout on speed.
2
@hnorrstrom Check out some psychrometric charts and you'll see that even 100% RH "moist air" around 0 °C will dry to 25% RH when heated to around 20 °C you typically have indoors during the Winter. This is because cool air saturates much more easy with the same amount of water molecules in the air. And outdoor air cannot be more humid than 100% RH because water would simply condensate instead of getting more humid. And most people could consider 25% RH pretty dry indeed.

23:30 The DPF system is used to remove carbon/soot from the exhaust gases. If it silences the sound, that's just a side-effect.

@r11tc LE 306 was more like a competitor to VW Camper Van instead of a truck and with total production was 58 vehicles. Even something like Aston Martin One-77 supercar had 77 vehicles for the total production and that was intentionally limited to increase the price per unit.
1
@zoolkhan Volksvagen owns both MAN and SCANIA and MAN is the cheaper product if you cannot afford a SCANIA.
1
@Dreyno You should see modern tractor such as Valtra before comparing an American truck to a tractor... For example, see https://youtu.be/CrfxzZmRzzI?si=8jB1Us4okAEdWCib
1
@sic22l I'm pretty sure only certain parts would need DOT certified, basically brakes and lights. And considering how strict the requirements are in Europe nowadays, DOT certification is basically just some paperwork.
1
@sic22l I was thinking that Euro 6 specs were already stricter than the ones used in the US but I have never checked that.
