Starting 2024-04-01 (April Fool's day but for real) removing EGR, DPF, Adblue or any other pollution reducing equipment from a commercial truck results in 30000 EUR (about $33k) fine if caught. Trucks also have mandatory yearly inspection where these things are checked. The fine also applies to older vehicles that had those features from the factory! That's why you really really want to clean the DPF filters and other parts where maintenance is cheaper than replacing parts.

The part was stainless steel and the only the bottom was dragged. I would be surprised if the paint shop did anything for that area.
1
It would be interesting to know why it catched fire. Probably oil or fuel leaking on top of turbo or some electrical fault?
1
Not sure about Scania but at least VW direct injection diesel engines have knock sensor integrated in the injector – I would guess that's a similar thing here.
1
40:00 Definitely a grandma driving. I've never seen that slow truck here in Finland.

Rolling coal definitely ruins your fuel economy but it can get a few percentage extra power because you can be absolutely sure not even a single oxygen atom went unused. If you care about fuel economy, environment or legislation, you increase boost when you want to get more oxygen to burn more fuel. That will result a lot more power without the black smoke.

Seeing this old video today, it's pretty insane that you're now driving year 2025 model around the US.
1
Your pronounciation of Ylivoimala is getting pretty close. You just need to train the first letter because it sounds like you're saying "Ulivoimala" instead.
1
Interesting video! Unfortunately, you had a typo in the video for Ylivoimala (missing the L near the start of the name). You could translate Ylivoimala from Finnish to English as "highest level power plant".
1
You need to get DHL or Fedex as sponsor if you want to freight all that stuff by plane!
1
I hope Scania has been good for you since you've probably sold more Scania trucks in the US last year than their entire marketing team!
1
Interesting truck but for this quality level, it should be closer to $150K in total.
1
14:00 That's fully standard electric heater cable used in Europe. You can probably find an US spec cable instead of using adapters. Typical price for a full cable is 20-25 EUR including all the taxes and maybe half if you go with a cheap clone with plastic insulator instead of rubber or silicone which is much much better in cold climate.

@rostundradau3442 Somebody explained the current situation is that MAN is replacing parts of their trucks with stuff originally engineered for SCANIA. If that's true, MAN should be getting near SCANIA level features in the future. Maybe in the long run SCANIA is the truck counterpart to Audi and MAN is the truck counterpart to Seat?
1
15:00 It's a small wonder that the engine run even that well with such a poor maintenance!
1
Even if you're broke, minimum speeding ticket is still 200 EUR so it's not cheap even if you're broke.
1
@MrRakaukolis SCANIA purchased by VAG (Volkswagen group), too, but this far it seems that SCANIA has been allowed to keep doing great work.

@piuthemagicman Powder style extinguisher is basically death sentence to any car. If you use powder style extinguisher in passanger car for the engine in the front, you'll typically find powder inside the real light wiring connectors, too. It gets to everywhere. And the bad part is that the powder is corrosive if you let it stay for extended periods. In practice it's so expensive to get rid of all the powder that the vehicle is basically totalled every time you use powder extinguisher. You can get it running but the body will start rusting in a couple of years and you'll have lots of electrical connectors failing in a few years, too.

Just call it "Blue Beast". Griffen is considered a beast and having two words that start with a B would be nice.
1
Great video series! I'm looking forward to see how it's received in the US.
1
Weird to have 14 and 16 mm bolts in that thing. Most European cars use 13, 15 or 17 mm for everything.
1
16:35 Pretty sick performance boost with a software update alone!

Finland uses 104 metric ton (or 229281 lbs) trucks in Northern Finland (video uses Scania R730 as an example truck): https://youtu.be/7mlHnA5Ab2c?si=CrfES2Eo3MX37gP7
1
Here's another video of the same truck. It also shows how nicely this giant truck can navigate even roundabouts: https://youtu.be/gBdvIvN8ybo?si=FrudPPZXaeKUX5VG
1
Great video! The only thing missing was brake test on snow and ice. I think you would have been surprised how well it can stop with studded tires even with all that weight.
1
If you want to pronounce Ylivoimala correctly, think it as a sentence of short madeup English words: "ju lih vo'ee mah lah". Finnish is pronounced with clearly distinct syllables and if you want to sound native, the pitch of your voice should raise for the start of each syllable and go down during the syllable.
1
You should visit Finland during the summer if you want to see Sun and enjoy warm weather with the whole family. Late May or late July is typically best for the weather. If you want to take your family to the Santa Claus, I'd recommend early March because that should definitely have a lot of snow still and nice weather.
1
That is definitely not stock, though.
1
I predict that Tim will purchase these trucks if you can agree on price. $40K is probably too much to ask.
1
Doesn't your coffee maker have a timer?
1
How deep is it rusted really? Seems like a surface rust only and sandblasting + new paint should be all you need for the frame.
1
I was surprised to see rust on the turbo housing. I would have expected that they apply zinc spray to it to avoid that kind of rusting. Doesn't make a huge difference for practical use but rust-free surface would help keeping the turbo housing cleaner.
1
17:20 That's basically a small factory on wheels!
1
@catd11ng74 The finish looks good enough to replace paint for the cab, too. Do they offer powder coated cabs?
1
9:00 Look how shiny this thing is!
1
@hnorrstrom Indeed. And you have to remember that your throat and lungs are trying to keep the air moist at body temperature, which is getting really hard when temperature drops a lot and you're outdoors.
1
Superb wrap work! You would have to get pretty close to figure out that it isn't air brushed straight to the surface. I see you have understood the European style to tune the trucks! Stylish instead of maximum bling bling.
1
That's the parts donor one. Lots of still working parts but it makes no sense to try to repair it for daily driving use.
1
I think the term you're looking for was "adaptive cruise-control". It reduces speed automatically when it would reach another vehicle on the road. The only question is if it can go down to 0 mph (e.g. stop at red lights automatically in traffic).
1
@kallek771 Europe mostly uses trucks like this and you can figure out why (assuming skilled enough driver you can turn it on a dime): https://youtu.be/FKYvA3-8uXA?si=SJLQUrRY55ODzHxN
