The thesis of the article was that Trump mischaracterized the relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia. A close relationship between the two countries isn't the fault of the writer. Dee Smith That wasn't the quote. And even if it was, liking capitalism is all fine and dandy. But we are talking about Saudi Arabia, a government with a documented history of human rights abuses. You can argue over what Obama should or shouldn't have done with them, but I would argue that taking their side after they're implicated in the murder of a journalist should be a dealbreaker.

I am extremely fed up with you Trump apologists who think being smug is the same thing as being right. How is all of this a joke to you? I would ask why you support someone who you want to dismantle the government instead of make any kind of improvements that don't do far more harm than good if you distrust the government so much, but I already know you will forego any attempt to answer that question in favor of proving beyond a shadow of a doubt why I lack any reason to take Styx or 99% of his commenters seriously.

MEGA 2020 Could you sound any more like an asshole when you say that? During the 2016, I read about some things Ted Cruz's college roommate said about him. It was something along the lines of "We could agree on every issue and I would only hate him 1% less because everything I hate about him stems from his personality." That's how I am with Trump. If his views were the same, but he wasn't a brash attention whore with no self awareness or redeeming qualities, I wouldn't have nearly as much of an issue with him. Rather, I want to never have to think about him ever again because the "true reality" is that he is precisely that. I could easily say that everyone who called Obama a secret Kenyan Muslim had a hate-filled mental illness keeping them detached from reality, but apparently you think that's just something liberals do now that the president isn't one.

Calling a black woman looks like a character from Planet of the Apes is more than a little reminiscent of when white people used to compare black people to apes and monkeys as a way of dehumanize an entire demographic. They’d say something like “Africans aren’t true human beings, as they have more in common with other apes than us white people.” That doesn’t necessarily mean Roseanne Barr is racist, but it was definitely not a stretch to see it that way. Bill Maher was responding to Trump’s birther “crusade” by doing basically the same thing Trump did in a “taste of your own medicine” way. That doesn’t make it right, necessarily. I’m just pointing out that the contexts were not quite the same.

@lornesouthern4170 For most people, yes, that would be dehumanizing. But as you said, the difference in receiving an insult is how the one receiving it deals with it. And Trump is nothing if not extremely thin skinned. If Trump had ignored Bill Maher, I wouldn't be saying anything. But from where I'm seeing things, Trump has such a fragile ego. Thirty years ago, a former Vanity Fair editor described Trump as a "short-fingered vulgarian." Trump's response was to send that editor envelopes containing photos of himself. In the photos, Trump's fingers were circled in gold marker. So when Trump is cheered on by his supporters for trolling critics and opponents, and yet those same people are booed by Trump supporters for trolling him back, I can't help wondering why you think I need to exploit anything.

@lornesouthern4170 Trump skips the White House Correspondents Dinner for three years in a row because "it's so boring and negative," so this year he did a "positive rally" instead. Which is only "positive" for Trump because the White House Correspondents Dinner wasn't full of people figuratively blowing him from start to finish. Meanwhile, the last president to skip (Ronald Reagan) couldn't attend because he had SURVIVED AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT. Even then, he still called in from Camp David. George W. Bush was mocked just as much as Trump, if not more so. But according to him, seeing his dad get scrutinized as president put "a fair amount of asbestos on my skin," so when he became president himself, "it didn’t hurt nearly as much." So yes, I say Trump is thin skinned. If he didn't want scrutiny, he shouldn't have run for president.

At a rally, he suggested he likes Saudi Arabia specifically because of his business dealings there. "They buy apartments from me," he said. "They spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much." More like Trump is really fickle.
