  1. Scott Manley Being impractical and not cost effective never stopped the government from pouring money into it, therefore making a profit to the corporations milking it. In fact, the more you point out how wasteful of resources and energy the idea is, the more plausible it is that a government would have funded it.

I actually tried that, had 8 salvage corvettes there dragging it in; then the carrier started spitting fighters non-stop that did nothing but shoot the corvettes down, faster than my 20 heavy corvettes could kill. After losing all my salvage corvettes I just let the fleet fire at will and destroy the carrier. I imagine that mission is scripted to not let you grab the carrier, it might be too OP this early in the game.

  6. Wait until the next mission, you'll find something far more deadly than swarms of fighters. After 4 reloads on that mission I'm holding off on playing HW again, no matter how much nostalgia I have, until they at least fix the AI. By the way, you don't have to stay and slowly mine at the end, jumping to hyperspace automatically mines everything - or should, if it wasn't glitched too. There are discussions going on reddit over all the HW1 mechanics that broke when porting over the HW2 engine, plus bugs. Oh, and open the game menu with F10, go to Options -> Controls, it lists all the keyboard shortcuts.

You are aware one can disagree with some of the "Climate Change" positions without rejecting the whole thing, right? Over 500 climate scientists signed an open letter to the UN, during the Climate Summit, to drop the unscientific alarmist rhetoric that's being used by politicians. I particularly doubt that simply raising taxes, making humans permanently dependent on artificial food supplements to compensate lack of protein from meat, and banning plastic straws from developed countries that don't even dump said straws into the ocean, is an effective way to solve the problem. I have plenty of scientific reasons to hold that position. Don't strawman your opponents, they might have legitimate reasons to challenge your position.

  24. For somebody claiming to be calculating things on paper before MechJeb, your guest could learn a thing or two by watching your 101 tutorials; or even the in-game tutorials. Where to point the spacecraft, for example... I can feel the frustration on Scott's voice when he's chasing the blue marker.

  27.  @arthurdefreitaseprecht2648  Even if SpaceX hired the surviving Apollo engineers, there are probably enough hardware differences that make the solutions not appropriate for the current rockets. I doubt the SpaceX engineers are amateurs at plumbing turbo pumps. It's more of a "we're operating in a different set of parameters, so we gotta redo all the steps to find a solution."

  35.  @you2be839  The engineers probably thought it was not worth dismantling a mostly finished rocket to go hunt for a problem they still knew very little about. Disassembling and reassembling a rocket is very expensive, specially when the rocket was not built to be disassembled. Screws and bolts deform after tightening up, so do the pieces they squeeze together. A reassembled rocket is less reliable than a freshly built one. The alternative is to "sacrifice" the next rocket, while putting more sensors, and making a few tweaks to try to isolate the problem. At the end of the day, the only way to test the rocket is by flying it enough times until it stops exploding.
