LOL What? There is no requirement that government worker be born in Canada. Immigrants make up 23% of the population across Canada and 46% in Toronto. Get a grip.
1
You'd think Doug Ford would have learned from the Umar Zameer case NOT to run his mouth and make unfounded accusations during an ongoing investigation. But I guess he faced no consequence from that case and there are enough racist and xenophobic morons who will lap up his 🐂💩. And shame on the spineless politicians like PM Trudeau and Mayor Chow who will stand at a press conference with him and say nothing.
1
@deathmauler181 who is making threats and inciting violence?
1
I would love to see legislation which puts a cap on the ratio between the wage of the lowest paid employee at a company and the highest paid (probably the CEO). Put the cap at $1:$20.
1
LOL GTFOH. Nobody was prevented from attending classes.
1
Where's the riot? All I see are people hanging out, engaging in discourse.
1
@Cutlerypotato more car-dependent suburban spawl out on the Greenbelt is not the answer to housing affordability. We must address housing crisis by densifying existing communities adinvesting in public transit.
1
Canadian federal leaders will waffle and equivicate and say they support international law, but ultimately will do not stop supporting genocidal Israel because Canada and Israel are both genocidal colonial nations. Any condemnation of Israel is an implicit condemnation of Canada and Trudeau, Freeland etc. don't want to see Canada facing similar charges at the ICJ.
1
Cops do not prevent crime and they can't be everywhere at once. Everything he described is reactionary: body cameras, emergency buttons, etc.
1
Do you actually support to measures that would be necessary to end homeless in Canada or are just saying that because you dont want to help refugees? It is possible to help BOTH refugees and the homeless in Canada by: massive investment in socialized housing, rent control, universal basic income, living wage etc.
1
@Fuzzy-_-Logic What are you talking about? What's not possible? Building socialized housing? What does that have to do with the decline of the Canadian manufacturing sector?
1
@Fuzzy-_-Logic Ah. This is a bot.
1
@DeborahHamilton-q1w why does it seem so improbable to you that students would be genuinely upset by an ongoing genocide and want to protest the complicity of their university?
1
So many fascist 🥾 👅 in these comments acting like putting up a tent on a university campus is WORSE than the actual ongoing genocide by Israel that these students are protesting against.
1
Canada sells weapons to Israel and provides diplomatic support. Canadian universities have endowment funds invested in companies that sell arms to Israel or operate in the Occupied Territories. They should be targets of BDS.
1
@hardasfk6709 There was like a week of snow in Toronto last winter.
1
LOL what hate speech?
1
This is inappropriate and a waste of time. MPP Jama said nothing incorrect. Doug Ford's stunt is so disingenuous; I can't imagine he cares one way or another what happens in Israel/Palestine, he just sees this as an opportunity deflect attention for his various corruption scandals.
1
Canada sells weapons and military tech to Israel and provides diplomatic support for Israel genocidal government. As Canadians we can pressure our own government to stop doing those things.
1
Why? Why is the university so reluctant to divest from the military industrial complex which arms Israel?
1
These parties are not equal, Kori. Israel is armed by a global super power and has killed +40,000 people in seven months and displaced millions. Yes absolutely call for peace.
1
This statement is four months too late. Israel has been bombing hospitals, refugee camps, and residential blocks for months killing ~30,000 people. Trudeau complicity refused to call for a ceasefire and continued to sell weapons to Israel.
1
Jewish protestors have been actively involved in the pro-Palestinian protests for months. EDIT: Not FEELING safe, is not the same as not BEING safe.
1
The level of cognitive dissonance to see a bus full of people zooming past cars in gridlock and think the bus lane is the problem. Also, there's only like 4 street in Toronto that have bus lanes. 500,000 personal vehicles are the cause of congestion.
1
@ironblud The fReEdOm CoNvOy protestors were allowed to occupy the nations capital for THREE WEEK with big trucks and make life unbearable for downtown residents and workers. With the tacit support of the Ottawa Police Service.
1
@ironblud Canada sells weapon and military tech to Israel and provides diplomatic support. The endowment funds of Canadian universities are invested in Israel and arm industry. Students are calling for divestment from Israel (among other things).
1
@lifesunmediafilmsfashionma1485 you're absolutely right. To the cops, the crime of "driving while Black" is more dangerous than aggressive or impaired driving by white people.
1
Where have the campus protests been "unpeaceful, hateful and violent"?
1
@theastronomer5800 Even if that were all true...how does any of that justify Israel killing +40,000 people and displacing millions more? This is just a distraction.
1
@joemadden4160 That's not at all what students are demanding.
1
@joemadden4160 1) why is it so hard to believe that student protestors are genuinely appalled by the ongoing genocide and their own university's complicity? 2) Sounds like you inferred that hatred should be directed at Jews. From what I have seen, protestors have directed their anger at the Israeli state, Zionists who support the state's genocidal actions, and complicit Canadian politicians. Furthermore, North American and European Jews have been front and centre in the Pro-Palestine/anti-war protests, including at U of T.
1
Anyone who thinks driving into a crowd of people is ever justified should be on watchlist. I hope this clown is charged with assault with a weapon, but knowing how much cops value drivers over pedestrians i don't think its likely.
1
@rdhudon7469 The City of Toronto tried to license cyclists from the 1930s to 1950s but scrapped the program because it was impractical and not cost effective. Why should cyclists require insurance? Cars and trucks require insurance because they frequently cause fatalities, cause sever injuries and destroy property; none of that risk exists with bikes. Why should cyclist pay a "road tax"? Drivers don't pay a road tax. Cyclist already pay for infrastructure though property taxes.
1
@rdhudon7469 Lot of falsehoods to unpack here. 1) Municipalities, like Toronto, pay for local road construction and maintenance through property taxes. The gas tax goes to the province, which it uses to maintain the 400 series highways plus the DVP and Gardiner Expressway in Toronto. None of which can be used by cyclists. 2) How much damage do cyclists cause in a year? Maybe $10k across the province. That is definitely not worth the administration hassle. 3) Everyone pays property taxes either directly, if they are homeowners, or indirectly through their landlord if they are tenants.
1
Unions are the reason we have weekends, 8-hour work days, and health and safety and workers comp legislation. The only people who want right to work legislation are capitalists and morons, which are you?
1
People don't leave behind their cultures and identities when they cross the border into Canada.
1
RosyD39 Who is trying to intimidate anyone?
1
There are plenty of Canadians if conscience who are participating and support these campus protests and other protest action against the genocide of the Palestinian people.
1
Police don't prevent crime.
1
Hey genius, almost all Canadians are immigrants or descendents of immigrants.
1
@GeoffOverson Students are calling on the university to divest from defense contractors which arm Israel...how is that supporting Hamas?
1
@DonnaF-yi4jx The students are protesting their university's financial complicity in a gen0cide, not gardening choices.
1
@Funk1880 You may be shocked to learn that tens of thousands of people travel by GO train, bus and subway from Mississauga and Woodbridge everyday. The subway was extended to Vaughan to make it easier for people to do that, there is a new BRT lane along HWY 7, and Metrolinx is currently building the Hazel McCallion LRT in 'Sauga/Brampton.
1
@cordisdie8109 LOL how? Like...what is the mechanism for Qatar funding campus protests in Canada? Why wouldn't the Qataris just hiring pricy government lobbyists like the Zionist do?.
1
They are calling for the university to divest the endowment funds from the Israeli businesses and the military industrial complex which arms Israel.
1
These students are very brave and I wish them the best of luck. Solidarity! From the river to the sea Palestine will be free!
