Yes Opinion changes all the time ... but the facts don't. And that's what history (and news) is all about hearing the facts but not the opinions to them because we make them on the facts. And depend from so many factors, even the same person is entitled to change opinion from one moment to the next. That's why opinion has no place in history books.

@999777656 Ideology is an Opinion. It has no place while teaching history because you "painting the facts". And in my opinion: If you are unable to teach history without an ideology you should not teach history.
1
@999777656 Apparently I hit a nerve. When you are unable to teach history and leave opinion out of it (ANY including your own) you are a danger to the kids Free Will because you not only tell what happened but also how they should think about it and what opinion they should have. This does not mean you cannot discuss and debate history AFTER they know the facts, but giving them facts and the opinion about it at the same time is dangerous.

The virtual court rooms need to be canceled as soon as possible and only be applicable in special circumstances. The virtual ones quite not have the same intimidating feeling of real ones.

What could possibly go wrong ...

Future looks promising! I have high hopes for the next generations. Keep voting Democrats! America is about to abandon the 19th and 20th century ... finally. It's already 21 years overdue. [And before you get the wrong impressions by this ... I'm white and I don't care about his skin color only his actions. And I assume he doesn't care about mine too.]

There are benefits of slavery for the slaver. This is a fact. If they are good or bad, moral or amoral, etc is an opinion about this fact. Teach the facts (all of them and make sure they are correct), leave the opinion out if it. Everyone must decide for himself/herself.
1
@oolong2 You can. And depending on the teacher this can go terribly wrong as well. And that's my point.
1
For 40 years now Republicans tell the same arguments. They had more than enough time to prove there is anything to it what they say. How long do they want to continue to fail America? It's time for something new and fresh blood. Granted Biden is not exactly new, but he draws a lot of fresh blood around him and does not try to play king as the former guy.
1
It's easy. Tell (all) the facts but no opinion to it (don't judge, don't evaluate). That's called "impartial" or "unbiased". After everyone knows all the facts everyone can make his or her opinion on it and debate if you want/need to. And you can try to convince others from your opinion but ultimativly you can't force your opinion on others they must decide to adopt it.
1
@Valer Fair enough. However it would have been good to know why. Maybe I overlooked something, maybe you cannot seperate facts and opinions.
1
@Valer Fair enough. However the danger remains the teacher can potentially "move" the opinion in a certain direction for example only teach some viewpoints maybe not even the most widely accepted one. Just to "push" a little. What import is, is to tell at least all that's known and considered correct and don't leave anything substancial out. And make sure where knowledge ends and where theory begins. This thin seperation between knowing and believing must be clearly visisble.

Europeans? Are you sure? Maybe you should check geography again. Middle-East is Asia, not Europe. Or North-Africa like Marocco or Algeria or Egypt but that is all well ... Africa.

I think this might backfire (pun) badly. When a vote happens and the new laws will dismiss an obvious win by Democrats it may actually lead to people picking up arms against the state government. The very weapons they made easier to get and using the weapons for the very reason it was introduced: To prevent an oppressive government who is not willing to give up power by cheating in elections or change the outcome if it's not to their liking.
1
Well than you should not mind do you. Prepare for more loophole closing.
1
You need ID to buy alcohohl right. Can you explain to me why the same is not enough suddenly after 50 years to register for vote and to prove ID on election day? Of course everyone must prove ID before voting that was never disputed, but it happen since forever. Why is the normal ID suddenly not good enough anymore? And have you ever ask yourself how you apply for Voter-ID? With the same ID you buy alcohl with, which makes all this just ridiculous.

Actually no. History is the teaching of facts ... not of opinions. Same as impartial news actually. The facts without the problematic opinion pieces directly after them.
1
@kencur9690 I don't disagree. There are a ton of gaps and there is always the risk someone does not stay impartial and write the facts down in a biased fashion. Same as news today actually. But this does not change that the foundations of history is facts. THIS IS the reason why it's important to stay honest on them, not make them up, and not change them. Beause THEY will be the starting points of any theory, discussion, opinion and so on. Revisionist history is changing the facts of history in hope of changing the opinion about history.
1
@kencur9690 Good observation: Discredit or change the facts in order to change opinion for confrontation. Murdoch Media's real purpose with channels like Fox. There is also an argument for "destabilize the trust" by confusion, mixing fact and opinion, and and and. Less trust and people will debate even more. See a pattern now? People debating to the point of actuall violence ... while Republicans silently voting down Corona Relief and everything which will cost their donors money.
1
Take my advice: Complete Candor ... and leave opinion out of it while teaching. Facts, Facts, Facts they can speak for themselves. Let future be the judge on that. "Good, Bad" ... those are judgements ... opinions. Those you can discuss after everyone know all the facts.

DO vote no matter how hard they make it for you. DO NOT let them convince you your vote doesn't matter. IT DOES. If it were otherwise they would not try so hard to change the election in their favor. DO NOT let them convince you your vote doesn't change anything. IT DOES. Look what Democrats in the Senate were able to pass without Republicans help already just after 70 days thanks to Georgia Democrat Senators. Democrats needs 60 seats in the Senate even better would be 66 to work also against Democrats-In-Name-Only like Joe Manchin who are against so many reforms the country desperatly needs like the 15$ minimum wage, Federal Election Reform, Changing the Filibuster and who is even trying to undermine the Infrastructure Bill because of Corporation Tax of his donors. DO make sure you are registered for voting and you were not purged from the list before elections.

I would consider changing who and how judges are nominated. The president as executive not be involved in this. He is executive and as such subject to SC rulings. A good judge will only ever be suggested if the president has decency and integrity and honesty. All missing from almost any Republicans nowadays. And a judge named by the president and approved by the Senate is ridiculous when both are from the same party. Than at least introduce a rule that every candidate must be approved by 2/3 majority from the Senate and maybe add a rule that the same must happen in the House.

And you wonder why Fox is so successful and how Trumpism happened? Ever considered the possibility to leave any opinion, any ideology, and speculation out of things and just teach (or report) what is available on facts ... AND JUST THAT.
1
@Gogetta80 Biden was voted with 82.000.000 votes so no ... not everyone

Non-Truther

Wow the 100 - 7 question wasn't even a textbox it was multiple choice. Terrible.
1
I wonder what happens when the Trumpists realize how they have been mislead and cheated to fill Trumps pockets and when they realize what they allowed to happen and even supported with money, time and effort against family, friends, neighours, fellow citizens and the country itself. It will be a humiliation for half the country for the rest of their lives. And I have a feeling deep in their heads they already know this but they are unable to let it out because it's so terrible. That's why they clinging to the lies even more and completely unreasonable because admitting this will be the hardest thing of their lives and will need decades for them to process this and learn to live with it.
