They were afraid they might get shot at. Newsflash, THAT'S YOUR JOB. A cop is supposed to be willing and able to lay down their lives to protect others. If you're not able to put your life on the line, you have no business having a badge. You're supposed to do everything you can to protect the people, even if that includes sacrificing your life. If you're afraid of getting hurt, GET A NEW JOB. The cops have no issues charging in when it's an unarmed black kid. Then they'll kick in the doors with guns blazing. But the second there's any actual threat to them, they will run away and cower in a corner.
