"Consideration of the realities of a given society" That phrase is pregnant with meaning.

In the U.S. all offices are direct vote except for president. This was done to avoid geographic power blocks where a few high density populations can control the out come. It's very rare when the popular vote doesn't match the winner of the presidential election. Local elections are nice but the real prize and power resides in the national government, mainly in those who control the military and the money.

@covertpuppytwo3857 It could have been Russia oil refineries. So far Ukraine has been kind to Russia.

I have good fun arguing with people like Becker. The more you dig into their thinking, the less they seem to know.

For CGTN I expect nothing but positive stories because the purpose of CGTN is to put a good face on China. From the bloggers I expect more than all happy talk all the time. The garlic joke came up before but it should be noted the United States has imported vegetables and spices grown in the same manner as the garlic imported from China. Several times tainted vegetables and other produce brought in with bacteria caused the death and severe illness for many Americans. This is no laughing matter and while Andy takes great amusement in the concern shown over tainted food product, for the people that suffered, well they weren't laughing. In the matter of the bloggers it should be noted the stories they do not cover.. What can be revealing is the things not said, not just the things spoken. The United States has a large Chinese population and they do act as a cross check regarding the stories that come out of China.

I bet she goes back to a nice heated home.

What affected Cuba's development was Fidel Castro. Cuba had a growing economy until Fidel came into power to help the people. The success of the Cuban people in the United States shows Cuba never lacked the talent, more like Castro wouldn't allow them to use their talent.
2
@theaconite1400 Cuba has trade with other countries. Cubans in the United States are allowed to send money to Cuba and some goods are sold to the United States. The embargo is not absolute. Maybe the problem was the Castro brothers? Just maybe? Blaming Batista at this point is ridiculous, the Castros have run Cuba for over 60 years now. Japan went from a feudal state to an industrial power in just 40 years.
2
All 3 countries have the hottest economies in the world. Your argument does not hold water.
2
@Pegleg2k7 I said read the history. 2014 is a recent event, but not the history.
2
@vlad_47 Ukraine was an independent nation centuries ago and was with Poland at one time. The Russians took care of that.
2
Stellantis followed a higher pricing strategy in the U.S. that really backfired.
2
Keep in mind, in the beginning The Soviet Union was Nazi Germany's dance partner.
2
Clare Daly's big brother. I guess they now come as a package of 2 for the price of 1?
2
A messy process.
2
They always have to go for Pinochet because most mass killers are Socialist. How much money has China poured into Zambia?
2
It appears Sweden isn't Russia friendly anymore as it is with Finland. When they wanted to join NATO, maybe that is an indication Russian behavior is getting out of hand.
2
Africa doesn't want to buy Chinese made TVs, they want to make them themselves.
2
You burn the chemicals as the most efficient way of removing them from the environment. The railroad company will be picking up the cost of the accident and clean up.

Movements have been heavily restricted and yet the virus remains.

@gohcheesin7626 As soon as people get out the virus comes back so the Chinese method is not effective. Americans chose to risk getting the virus in order to be able to live their lives. That is the choice they made. On the other hand deaths in the United states has dropped down. Keep in mind you can be run over by an auto but if one germ of virus is found on you, your death is considered virus related. A rather odd accounting method but it does allow local communities to get federal funding. This was at the start of Covid and as far as I know, still continues.
1
@gohcheesin7626 I think I explained it quite well. Maybe you need to read my response again.
1
@gohcheesin7626 I said the people made a choice. As for China, no matter how much people are kept away from contact, once they go back to a normal life, Covid comes back. Covid will always be there, lurking and waiting. In the United States new Covid cases have been dropping greatly. In China, sheltering may only delay but not prevent mass infection.

EV's are good as it reduces dependence on oil exporters which is very desirable. EV's are not good because of the thing no battery maker likes to talk about: recycling. You also become dependent on lithium producing countries, not desirable.

That crab needs an image makeover. Hairy crab isn't the most appealing name. Kind of like hairy steak or hairy noodles.
1
Sweden and Finland want to join NATO. Two indications of Russia's untrustworthiness. China's plan is worth discussing.
1
Millions of Chinese on Taiwan yet not one of them has a brain?
1
Rock slides happen, just like floods in China happen.
1
The EU bought on the spot market, the worst way to buy anything.
1
@michaeljames2349 The Russians really do not want to blow up Ukrainian apartment buildings. Really they don't. Honest.
1
More whites were lynched than blacks. Our media hides the violence done by blacks against others.
1
A few missiles, a few aircraft and troops waiting on the beach will be all it takes to give China a big hurt. Read about the Normandy Beach landings if you think it will be easy to attack Taiwan.
1
The issue is, the bridge was bombed despite security. This shows the Russian invaders they are not safe.
1
Study early Chinese history then get back to me.
1
@fellsmoke Your use of the term barbaric indicates a real sense of self superiority which is the driver of racism. Racism and elitism is essentially the same thing.
1
@elisheba3200 The labs detect any biological activity from Russia but also provide some healthcare to the local population and farm animals. The labs do not produce biological weapons.
1
@elisheba3200 Why would you have so many labs for biological weapon manufacturing? Each lab is a potential security leak. Just keeping 40 labs secure is a major and expensive effort.
1
@ALIEN_857 When was the last time Taiwan threatened mainland China?
1
@Samoasoa Maybe a response to China's threats? Could that be it?
1
Back in the early 1950's the United States wanted to leave Korea and guess what happened? North Korea (with the help and support of 2 large near by Communist countries) attacked South Korea.
1
The system has worked since 1783.
1
Kuhn was an investment banker and they always go to where the money is.
1
China is naïve? Why are they building such a large navy?
1
@misterhill5598 Some of the greatest moments in democracy was when the South Korean National Assembly broke out into a bare knuckled brawl. Some of those Korean women can really hold their own in a fight!
1
@misterhill5598 It's not drivel at all, it's history. And real democratic systems are quite lively.
1
Replacement battery costs will take the shine off of EV's.
1
The last time the Russians had no problem rolling over Poland in order to aid Nazi Germany. World War 2 was two snakes in the east eating each other.
1
@haroldcruz8550 China stays out of the Ukraine War, they will be looking good. Otherwise they'll be seen as the people who backed a regime that blew up apartment buildings so people would freeze to death. Not a good look.
1
@haroldcruz8550 Did I say China should support the U.S. over Ukraine? I do not think I said that.
1
The U.S. did release several from Guantanamo and then they picked up arms in Afghanistan to kill more people.
