I have never understood why but I guess it goes well with the fear mongering scare tactics our politicians use to keep everyone distracted. Besides we also take away voting rights for felons in most states so it is also one more way to suppress the vote in a democracy.

The wealthy elite have taken over the government. Both the house and the Senate have to pass a version of a bill then there is a committee to resolve the differences between the two versions. Mitch McConnell doesn't get to control what is in the house bill he only gets to being it to the Senate floor and modify it. So Mitch McConnell by refusing to bring it to the foor for discussion and a vote is the one who has broken the system and is forcing Americans to suffer and die without help from our government. Mitch McConnell alone owns this fuck up as he has single handedly stopped all forward progress. Including the fact that Mitch McConnell hasn't put the "sensible" bill forward in the Senate to send to the house. Mitch doesn't want to help Americans he only wanted to help his donors get their handouts.

  24.  @2367J  duplication of infrastructure isn't the answer it will only drive up cost and make content harder to find. We need to seriously start to look at information transportation the same way we do the transportation of any other goods in our society. It wouldn't make since to have multiple roads and power lines to everyone's property so we addressed the issue over a century ago and made public roads but allowed private companies to use them. We agreed we all need to pay for the mantaince of those roads as they are critically to a functional society. In our modern high tech world the same argument applies to the internet. Everyone needs basic access the same as with roads. It will still be the responsibility of private citizens to own their own computer or cellphone just as you need to provide your own car to drive on our roads but you don't expect to enter a town and see a road block with someone saying only cars manufactured by Chevy are allowed on this road because GM has a factory in town and funds this strech of road. We would all agree that is crazy. But in fact it is the type of behavior we are seeing service providers on the internet take and much like the roads you have no other choice based on your physical location or in the case of YouTube and Facebook you have little to no choice because the network has the audience you want to reach.

  39.  @jamesevans1890  the cares act is tricky. It is basically a chance for the wealthy elite to cheery pick which businesses they want to foreclose on. Because the loans can be forgiven but we saw in 2009 that Steve Manchin became wealthy for his roll in forcing home owners into foreclosure instead of refinancing for them. The same type of thing will happen here with the cares act. Tons of small businesses will be forced to close many have already after taking the money and will file bankruptcy on the loans. It is a scary number of the jobs that are considered permanently lost in the USA already. But the big companies like the airlines have done layoffs and the cares act leaves enforcement to Steve Manchin who seems to be ok with them taking the money and laying off employees. It is a very poorly written bill so that the big companies who bought got our government can take the money and run while the small companies will vanish and the assets be taken by the wealthy bankers who underwrite the loans. The real money in the USA is the federal reserve dumping money into wallstreet and the best information on that I have seen is right here when Dylan Radigan has been on.

But I heard from several sources that the counter offer Nancy Pelosi made was February for the $600 as a standalone bill and Grim Reaper McConnell went on vacation basically saying if I can't crash the economy after the election I will crash it now instead.

The fact that he refused to go beyond the Nov election tells you he is living up to his self titled name Grim Reaper McConnell. But as to what the Democratic party asked for Trump has put Funding for the new FBI building into the relief bill. What does that have to do with the pandemic? I get why he doesn't want a new Hotel near trump hotel though. But more on point the Republican party had 2 months to pass their own bill and enter reconciliation with the democratically controlled house. That is how our system is supposed to work both houses of Congress pass legislation and resolve the differences in resolution. When mitch McConnell refused to bring legislation to the Senate floor proudly naming himself the grim Reaper because of it in fact he proves the full meaning of the name. Americans are dieing because Mitch McConnell and Trump chose to put party over country again with the pandemic. I am not a fan of the corporate Democrats but at the moment Grim Reaper McConnell is the one earning his name as he goes home on vacation. If you can't see the difference you are not looking at which people took actions to insure that legislation stopped in its tracks by refusing to take to debate on the floor.

The point is Rand Paul knows the care Canadians receive in their system is superior to that he could have received in the USA. His arguments against single payer is hypocrisy because when he needed care he didn't use our single payer system he became a healthcare tourist to a hospital which is part of the Canadian single payer system. Medicare for all doesn't end private hospitals in the United States so your argument isn't even valid against Medicare for All. Just like that private hospital in Canada that accepts the Canadian single payer insurance a system Rand Paul admitted provides better healthcare then he could get in the USA Medicare for All would do the same thing in the USA. Private hospitals with public insurance.

You should read why I said it was in Canada in the first place it goes to the very point the anti Medicare for All pro for profit healthcare people keep making Canada with their single payer has a surgery which has better health outcomes then the alternative in the USA.
