  1.  D' Essay  the green in renewable energy is going directly into my own pocket. I installed an off grid solar system this year. The batteries are rated for 12 years the rest of the system rated 85% at 25 years and the payback based on my current electric bill before telling the power company to take down their lines is 9 years. So sorry but the ff industry can suck it my power comes from the sun and the saving go into my pocket

  2.  @1MarkKeller  unfortunately it seems fear of change is all that motivates the "conservatives". The other poster is correct that some are paid trolls but all too often it is simply people who can't afford to replace their old car fearful that they will need to do so. My brother thought he would own me once by telling me all the ff things he uses in a single day. That was when I realized that he is in his 50s and worried that he can't afford to replace all those things. I didn't feel owned I felt pitty for him to feel so fearful for his own financial situation.

This was the end of the constraints built into the contract which is why Congress had to pass legislation in less than one week to make the strike illegal. If Congress didn't act the union had every right under their labor contract to start a strike on December 9th. The same thing happened in the middle of the summer when Biden declared mission accomplished in avoiding the ability of labor to strike because they passed a 90 day cooling off period through Congress forcing the railroad workers back to work for the last 3 months without a contract agreement.

This is about a lack of faith in the USA dollar and the stock market being over inflated not low interest rates. The wealthy where never putting their fortune in bank saving accounts.

  7. Don't forget that the fractional reserve banking system means that the banks making the loan only had 10% of the value of the loan to start with. The other 90% of all loans is new money created by the federal reserve.

  10.  @chrisj984  well unemployment is paid for while you work for the company before they lay you off. It isn't a government handout to the ex employees it is a government mandated and managed insurance plan paid for by the employer. I have once in my life been eligible and I had no trouble taking the payment because I knew my former employer was paying the unemployment benefits. In my case I actually gave my two week notice and the department head met me at the door and walked me out the next day not allowing me to work my notice and not paying me for the 2 week notice which changed it into them firing me on the spot not me quiting. I almost didn't apply for unemployment because I knew where I would be working in a few weeks already but someone talked me into it and after I filed my former boss caught up with me and actually thanked me for doing it. He said we paid that unemployment insurance anyway and his boss was wrong to not let me work the 2 week notice it hurt the company as I had spent the night with my boss and the other employees able to fill my job laying out a training program for the next 2 weeks to make sure that could do the work I had been doing. So that is my take on unemployment it is a insurance program your former boss paid for you are wasting their insurance premiums by not taking it. Now as to public utilities and the green new deal. Everything I have read and I have read the full transcript of the orginal concept which isn't too long. Google green new deal text cleantechnica you will find it from about a year ago I guess in the orginal text word for word. But anyway the proposal is to mandate that the current utility companies switch their power generation over to renewable energy. It isn't a government take over of the energy sector it is simply government mandated change of energy sources by the private sector. There is government funding for the new infrastructure but as far as I know the Tennessee valley power authority is the only government run power system in the USA outside of the military I guess. But the TVA is actually well liked by the citizens of Tennessee who both work there and get power from them. There was some talk about expanding the TVA but I think it's charter is limited in scope. It was started because at the time there was no private sector power company willing to provide power to the area IIRC. But I am far from an authority on the TVA. So I am not sure what public utilities you are concerned about if you are asking will the government become your employer as a member of the cable company no the cable company isn't part of the green new deal at all as far as I know.

  11.  @chrisj984  oh as to property taxes I am with you there I live in NH we have no sales or income tax so our property tax is insanely high and it is worse because I live in a tourist trap with tons of shopping centers that get onto the town government and make sure the tax burden is on the home owners not the businesses. The same business that bring all the traffic that destroys our roads and all the tourist that make our police and fire departments bigger than any other town in a huge radius around us. So yes I am not at all a fan of property taxes they are regressive as they tax the wealth of the working class far more than the wealth of the caplist class. Meaning far more of my wealth is tied in in my home than Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos. So property taxes are regressive by nature.

  12. My power company in NH is a co op it hasn't lowered my costs. Infact it is cheaper to be off grid solar. Which is what I am doing.

  15.  @jgalt308  funny how the same government you fearmonger about insolvency has 2 trillion dollars to spend modernizing nuclear weapons we have literally only ever dropped 2 of in war and that was almost a century ago. The same government spends over a trillion dollars a year on the military and gave over 6 billion dollars in weapons and support to Ukraine in the last year. Cleary the government in the USA can afford to do things that our elected officials feel is a priority. If you are so worried about the funding for the items you mentioned you need to think long and hard about why those are not a priority to the government before you vote in November.

  18.  @penelopejewell-ferrer13  when the head of GM went before Congress and declared that they didn't need to recall the ignition in my 2005 duramax because it was built by the old GM pre bankruptcy and they where the new GM I decided that would be the last GM product I would own because my loyalty was to the old GM not to this new GM that would publicly say they don't stand behind their products or history. At the moment I still own that same truck I bought new in 2005 and am waiting for an EV which can do the same work to replace it with. Could well be the Tesla or the ford depending on cost and battery technology

  19.  @maxentirunos  I know many EV owners who can clarify that situation for you because they have owned them for close to 10 years and never replaced the batteries. They also pay about 1/5 the cost per mile in fuel for the EV compared to the ICE they owned before it

A 90% top marginal tax rate on income or earnings over 1 million dollars per year and the person who made 3 billion dollars in 2020 could have solved more than 10% of the homelessness in America with his taxes alone. This is why the 40s through the 60s was the golden age of economic growth in America. We did tax the wealthy to fund the needs of our society.

  34. I respect Norm Chomsky but thinking we can move Joe Biden is denialism. Joe made it clear that he will veto Medicare for All that is supported by over 80% of all Democratic voters and over the majority of all Americans. Joe's voting history proves what he values it is the defense of the corporations and their profits not the working class. We need to fight for Rank choice voting and the people's party if we want change. The Democratic party let a red states choose their nominee in 2020 to end the Bernie Sanders working class movement within their party. I will fight for progressives like AOC and Nina Turner because getting them in Congress is the most important part. But I have zero belief that we can move Joe Biden or the other centrist corporatist politicians. They answer to their donors not their voters. Profit positive of that is Biden saying he will veto Medicare for All during a global pandemic that has killed over 400,000 Americans. If he won't fight for healthcare now he never will.

I am all for worker cooperatives and a simplier lifestyle but our modern society will simply not function without specialized skills.

You haven't thought about the 5.5 trillion dollars we spent in 2020 and 2021 in covid relief. Or the 20 trillion dollars in newly minted money the federal reserve created in 2020 becoming the buyer of last resort for the stock market. It was 20 trillion dollars to make the V shaped recovery in stocks in 2020. That figure comes from Dylan Radigan you can Google him to find the details as YouTube deletes links. So the question of how do you pay for it was destroyed by the trump administration in 2020. Clearly we have the ability to install many megawatts of solar at $35 per megawatt hour when I just listed 7 trillion dollars the federal government found to spend in 2020 and 2021 for covid and nuclear weapons plus 20 trillion dollars that the federal reserve dumped into the stock market as brand new money. The government has proven beyond question that we can pay for the green new deal we just need to make it a priority.
